Effective Classroom Management and Discipline : A module on Effective Classroom Management and Discipline  was conducted on 17th March, 2012  for the teachers of the Primary Section. A discussion on the various teaching strategies to be applied in the classroom was held during this session. The teachers came up with suggestions and ideas and their queries were addressed satisfactorily. It was an interactive and informative session

 Nate the Great : The final  Culminating Activity of Grade I (ICSE) was held on 20th March, 2012  based on the novel “ Nate the Great”. The students put up a skit based on the novel and enacted their part enthusiastically. Later, a fashion show on the theme “ Food Glorious Food” was held which was lively and  entertaining. The wonderful  props added to the colour of the event.

 Field trip to Shivarkar Garden : The students of Grade II (ICSE) were taken on a Field trip to Shivarkar Garden on 21st March, 2012. The students were encouraged to observe the important landmarks and street names on their way to the garden. They also played for a short while and admired the beautiful flowers and different trees. It was an informative and fun trip for all of  them.

 Goldfish Don’t Take Bubble Baths : The fourth Culminating Activity of Grade II (ICSE) was conducted on 30th March, 2012. It was based on the extracts from the Literature reader “Goldfish Don’t Take Bubble Baths” and the Social Science unit of Time and Space. The students enacted the skit very confidently  and conveyed the importance of being on time, always as…“Time and Tide wait for no man”.

Primary Section

Yet another great achievement !! Sujal Acham of Grade II (ICSE) has done VIBGYOR High proud by bagging the first prize in the 5th International Mathematics Olympiad (Second level) held on 12th February, 2012. Our heartiest congratulations to him for putting our esteemed institution in the limelight. Sujal had also won a prize at the First Level Examination which was conducted in about 7000 schools across many countries in Asia in December 2011. Keep it up, Sujal !!!.

Activities from 25th February to 2nd March, 2012
Primary Section

The children of Grade IV (ICSE) went on a field trip to the Peshwe Energy Park on 28th February, 2012. They saw the wind, hydro, solar and biomass energy pavilions and learnt about their uses and importance. The children were also apprised about geothermal, tidal and wave power and were educated about the renewable sources of energy, their advantages and relation with the environment.

 On  1st  March, 2012 the students of Grade V (CIPP) visited an  Eye Specialist in keeping with the science topic  ‘How I See Things’. They learnt more about the structure of the human eye, the process involved in eye testing and the importance of taking good care of our eyes. The visit was very informative.

Secondary Section

 

The Grade V students organized an English Culminating Activity on 27th February, 2012 based on ‘The Bermuda Triangle Mystery’. It commenced with a welcome note followed by a Power Point presentation. A musical role-play on the theme was enacted by the students. There was thrill and excitement as the parents participated in a 3-minute quiz. The feedback register was filled with appreciation for teachers and students.

Activities from 14th to 27th January, 2012
Secondary Section

The Hindi Culminating Activity of Grade VI- B (ICSE) was held on the 24th January, 2012. The topic was ‘Indian monuments’. The programme began with a welcome speech followed by a PowerPoint presentation. A role-play on the theme was enacted by the students,. The programme was concluded with a viewing of the Class Worksheets and the creative charts made by the students.

A Culminating Activity for Grade VI C (ICSE) in Mathematics was held on 24th January, 2012. The topic was ‘Simple Interest’. A skit titled ‘Bank Scene’ was enacted well followed by a power point presentation by the students informing the audience about the basic concepts of simple interest. A game on simple interest was played with the parents and the winners were applauded. The show was very lively, informative and entertaining.

VIBGYOR High, Pune celebrated Republic Day with great patriotic fervour. Ms. Suparna Dey was the master of ceremonies. Our principal, Ms. D. Ahlowalia rendered a soul- stirring speech. The secondary children put up a colourful dance and many students were felicitated for their various achievements.

An Inter house competition for the Secondary section was held on 27th January, 2012. Grade V presented the states of India, Grade VI highlighted social issues, Grade VII made newspapers, Grade VIII enacted skits on safety and hygiene, and Grade IX made presentations highlighting environmental issues. It was a day full of fun and laughter.

Primary Section

A workshop on Disaster Management for the staff of VIBGYOR HIGH was conducted on 21st January, 2012. The workshop covered the different types of fire, how to prevent them, the fire hazards in a school and the precautionary measures to prevent the same. They were also made aware of how to use the fire extinguisher with respect to the above hazards. The workshop was informative and educative.

An exhibition called ‘Young Inventors’ was organized by the students of Grade IV (CIE) on 20th January, 2012. The students posed as inventors, creating their own machines and were very enthusiastic in explaining the working of their machine to the students and teachers of other grades. The enthusiasm and creativity of the students made this event a huge success.

The students of Grade I (CIE), visited the Fire Station ,an important neighbourhood place, on 23rd January, 2012. They met a few firemen and learnt how fire fighters put out fire using different fire equipment like fire-suits, water hoses etc. They also got a chance to enter the fire engine and ring the bell. It was an informative and educative trip.

Students’ Achievement

Mohak Bhattacharya of Grade II (ICSE) has brought in laurels for VIBGYOR High, Pune, by his excellent achievement at the MaRRs International Spelling Bee Championship held at Al Nahda National School, Abudhabi, on 6th & 7th January, 2012 . MaRRs Spelling Bee is the largest competition of its kind in Asia and our little genius has secured the second rank and won a scholarship of US$ 2222. Kudos!!

The students of VIBGYOR High, Pune performed brilliantly at their CIPAT examinations. Out of the 27 students who appeared for the examination held in November, 2011, Rhea Iyer fared exceptionally well and scored a straight 6.6% in all the subjects. The IGCSE results were declared on 23rd January, 2012. Out of the 14 children who appeared (eight subjects), Sohee Lee topped the list and got A* in six subjects. Out of the 7 children who appeared for the A2 level examinations in October, 2011, Mihir Khanolkar scored the highest with A in 2 subjects. Congratulations and all the best.

Secondary Section

A Coffee Meet for the parents of Grade X students (CIE), was held on 7th January,2012, The parents were apprised about the AS Course- subjects offered and curriculum, scheduled to begin on 16th January, 2012. The parents had the opportunity to interact with the Vice Principal, Trainee Co-ordinator and subject teachers who satisfactorily addressed all doubts/ queries put forward by the parents.

The students of grade VI and VII (CIE) were taken on a field trip to Muktangan Science Exploratory Centre on 11th January, 2012. They visited the various laboratories in the exploratory centre. The students also participated in a few activities in the Earth Sciences and the Mathematics laboratory and marvelled at the exhibits and models seen there.

The students of Grade VI went on a field trip to Katraj Zoo on 9th January, 2012.They craned their necks to have a close look at the different species of animals in their natural habitat such as the deer and sambar. The trip was very educative and the students returned enriched with knowledge.

Primary Section

The students of Grade III (ICSE) went for a field trip to Wanowrie Post Office on 9th January, 2012. The children witnessed the procedure of posting letters and the method of depositing/ withdrawing money. They were also shown how letters are sorted and stamped, which are then collected by the post men. The children also posted a few letters to their friends. The visit was a learning and an enriching experience for the young children.

The students of Grade I (CIE) had an activity on 11th January, 2012 , where they made their own juggling ball out of simple materials like balloons and food straws. The activity was enjoyed by the students and it was fascinating to see them trying their hand at juggling !

Vibgyor High congratulates Sanika Deshpande of Grade III B (ICSE) on her outstanding performance in the Open Roller Skating Race held at the Track and Road Arena, Kasarsai, Pune on the 5th of May 2011. She won the Gold medal in the Endurance Competition and Silver in the Sprint Race. We are proud of her achievement.

Vibgyor High congratulates Thanish Bhaskar of Grade III B (ICSE) on his energetic performance in the Annual Inter School Karate-Do Championship held on the 11th of December 2011 at Symbiosis International School. Thanish won a Silver medal participating in the male individual Kata event under the 9 years senior category. We are proud of our little Karate Champ!

An inter- house Art and Poster Making Competition for the Secondary section ( V – IX ) was held on 21st December 2011. The students made posters on ‘Waste Management’ and ‘Conservation of Electricity’ and wrote appropriate slogans for the same, painted pictures without using brushes, created pictures based on ethnic art and made posters using the techniques of any one famous painter. The students were very enthusiastic and innovative and produced some great work.

Primary Section

The students of Grade II (CIPP) went for a field trip to Kelkar Museum on 21st December, 2011 in keeping with their V- Concepts topic ‘Finding out about the past’. They looked closely at historical objects like utensils, clothes, weapons, lamps, paintings etc. It helped them to understand how ancient cultures functioned. The children were amazed to see the intricate workmanship of the artists of yesteryears!

As part of the V- Concept topic ’Movement and Entertainment’, the children of Grade I (CIPP) dressed up as different circus characters on the 23rd of December, 2011. The children learnt how movement and entertainment are a part of circus life. The classrooms were decorated beautifully and looked like a mini circus.

The students of Grade I ( ICSE) went on a field trip to The Garage on 21st December, 2011. The purpose of the trip was to make the students aware of the different parts of a vehicle and how they need to be maintained. They also learnt about the causes and effects of pollution and how to control the same. The students enjoyed the trip and came back enriched with a lot of information.

VIVA

Sports Day for the students of Grades I and II was held on the 16th of December, 2011. The children participated in an array of events like PT drill, a march past, fun races, sprints and relay. It was a glorious morning where the children as well as their parents had fun under the sun. The energetic cheerleaders and spontaneous running commentary added to the charged atmosphere. The winners rejoiced with medals and certificates.

The annual concert of the Secondary section ‘The Human Spectrum’, was staged on the 16th of December, 2011. It contained facts, songs, dance and an integration of world cultures. The stage looked resplendent with the costumes, grace and rhythm of the children bringing it alive.

A workshop on Photography was conducted by ace photographer Mr.Vivek Tickoo from 14th to 16th of December, 2011. He introduced the children to the different concepts of photography like compositions, angles, apertures, etc. The children used these newfound skills while taking various photographs around the campus which was already teeming with VIVA activities. It opened a whole new world for these young minds.

A workshop on Wall Mural was conducted by Ms. Neeta Padgilwar on 15th and 16th December, 2011. A large number of students participated with great enthusiasm and thoroughly enjoyed this art form .The workshop was a success having received a good response and the students proudly went home with their self designed Wall Murals.

An antakshari Geet Gata Chal was organized on 16th December, 2011 . The students displayed their talent in music and enthralled everyone with their singing capabilities. They enjoyed themselves singing songs to the clues given. The audience cheered each time a team would outdo the other one in the buzzer rounds. It was an entertaining experience for both- the participants and the audience.

The gala competition VIVA PRINCE AND PRINCESS was held on the 16th of December, 2011. The contestants scored on their personality, talent and spontaneous answers to the judges' questions. Anurag Singh and Payal Bhangire were crowned Viva Prince and Viva Princess respectively. They will now represent Vibgyor High Pune at the Mega Finale to be held in Mumbai on the 23rd of December, 2011.

A poster competition was held on the 16th of December, 2011 for the secondary students in keeping with the theme , ’It’s time to save our planet’. The contestants created beautiful and vividly coloured posters with an underlying message of how they want the Earth to be in the future. Their creativity, originality and unique ideas were boldly depicted on the canvas.

VIVA

A Chocolate Making workshop was conducted from 13th to 15th December, 2011 by Mrs. Alpa Shah. The students set off on a culinary adventure discovering new flavours and textures of chocolate making. They learnt the basics and tried the same themselves using fresh ingredients. The chocolate mixture was poured into different moulds and was left to set . The students carried home chocolates wrapped in colourful wrappers .

An Art Competition was held on 15th December, 2011 for the students of Grade I and II . It was based on the theme ’Your World Your View’, wherein the students expressed their views about the world and came up with unique and interesting drawings. The competition was judged by Namrata Reddy and Anamika Sen who had a tough job deciding the winners.

A competition Doughnut Delight was held on 15th December, 2011 for the students of Grade I and II. The participants enthralled the spectators and judges with their creative decoration of the doughnuts. The judges were highly appreciative of the skill and enthusiasm displayed by the participants. The competition was judged by two eminent personalities Mrs Iyer and Mrs Vandana Nigam.

A Kite Nouveau competition was held on 15th December 2011. The students displayed their talent and creativity by making Kites using eco-friendly material thereby resulting in beautifully decorated kites. The event was graced by Mrs. Bharti Goidani and Mrs. Sananda Basak. The judges motivated the participants by appreciating their creativity and enthusiasm.

A workshop Warli Art was conducted on 14th and 15th December, 2011. Warli, is a tribal form of painting originating from the largest tribe found in Maharashtra. These paintings express their day-to-day life using basic object forms. The usage of a single colour ( white on reddish brown mud base) is unique to this art form. The students enthusiastically participated in this workshop.

A competition Beat It….Instrumental was held for the Secondary students on the 15th of December, 2011. It was a platform for the students to exhibit their musical creativity. The event was judged by Angelina Rozario and Chaitrali Jain. The audience was held captive in the musical ambience spun by the young and budding musicians.

A group dance competition, “Dance Factor” was conducted on 15th December, 2011. Talented and enthusiastic students participated and danced to the tune of various foot tapping numbers. The groups danced with perfect co-ordination as they displayed various formations. The judges had a challenging job to declare the winners. The children were very happy to be a part of this competition.

A group dance competition Dhoom Machale was organized for the students of Grade VIIIth to Xth on 15th December, 2011 . The show began with a grand performance by the professional Ewa Maria Cherukuru’s ,’The Cinderella School of Ballroom Dancing’ . The competition began with the students swaying to the rhythmic beats. The audience was enthralled by the performance. The judge motivated the participants with encouraging words.

Drums and Roses - The Band Competition was held on 15th December, 2011. There were some brilliant performances by the participants on songs such as Yellow by Coldplay and Kolaveri Di. “Tough on Tobacco “ was the band that won the competition. The event brought out the best in the youngsters.

A competition on Tattoo Design was held on the 15th of December, 2011. The children showed a lot of creativity and produced innovative designs. The children had a lot of fun during the competition. The judge appreciated the efforts of the participants. The best designer was awarded a prize.

A workshop on Salsa and Bollywood Hip Hop was conducted on the 14th and 15th of December, 2011. Instructors from ‘The Young Talent Association’ started the work shop with an introductory speech on the origin and meaning of the word Salsa and Hip Hop. They then proceeded with warm- up exercises. The children enjoyed dancing to the beats of the songs. The workshop was wrapped up with some cooling-off exercises. Students thoroughly enjoyed the learning experience.

The Sports Day for Grades III and IV was held on the 15th of December, 2011 at the AFMC ground. The occasion was graced by Brig. Agarwal and Brig. Joshi .The programme commenced with the unfurling of the school flag. There were several races like obstacle, hurdle, relay etc lined up for the children. The parents turned out in large numbers and cheered enthusiastically as their wards competed with each other to emerge as winners.

A competition Razzmatazz was held on 15th December, 2011 for the children of Grades I and II dressed in the attire of the 60’s and 80’s showcased their talent. Some of them danced, sang songs, recited poems, performed mono plays and even played musical instruments. They displayed the VIBGYOR spectrum of colours. This gave them a platform to display their talents with confidence .

The unique “Dance till you Drop” competition was held on 15th December 2011. What enthusiasm and energy !. The students executed their dance moves very artistically and danced to the rhythm of the music. There was a wonderful mix of semi-classical, modern, western and fusion dancing with lots of Bollywood moves. Everyone enjoyed the competition and cheered wholeheartedly, making the event a great success.

VIVA

Effervescence and gaiety marked the Annual Concert celebrations at Vibgyor High, Pune on the 14th December, 2011. The students of Grade I and II put up a well orchestrated programme showcasing their talent. The grandeur of the stage , the dancing and acting of the little ones left the audience spell bound.

A workshop on Bollywood Fun Dance was conducted on the 13th and 14th of December 2011 by the members of the Young Talent Association (YTA), Pune, wherein, the children learnt the basics of Bollywood dancing .It was a fun-filled session which kept the children grooving to the music. The session concluded with the dances being performed by the kids for their parents.

Students of Grades III and IV participated in a dance competition ’Dance Till You Drop’ held on 14th December, 2011. The competition was judged by Kevin Lobo – a certified Latin and Ballroom dance teacher and Apoorva Shah – a well-known Kathak dancer. Joining the little dance stalwarts were the children in the audience who were grooving to the melodious beats and the atmosphere was eclectic.

The students of Grade III and IV participated enthusiastically in a painting competition, ’Your World Your View’ held on 14th December, 2011. The participants were given the freedom to express their ideas, keeping in mind the theme ‘How will you imagine the world to be……’. Mr. Sunil Dhruv and Ms. Priyanka Nangare graced the occasion as eminent judges and felicitated the winners. It was a beautiful sight to see our budding artists creating their own work of art with perfection.

The Razzmatazz Competition on the 14th December, 2011 was filled with a lot of elan and enthusiasm. The theme for the fashion show was 'Retro' so the children showcased fashion, hairstyles and accessories from the 70's and 80's. The ramp walk was followed by a talent round where the children performed dances, magic tricks and sang their favourite songs. Everyone was a winner and it showed in their smiles.

The competition Bollywood Masala Quiz was organized on 14th December , 2011 . The quiz had four rounds and students were judged individually .Questions were based on film stars, movies and songs from Bollywood. The participants were given one minute to answer the questions. The competition was lively and interesting .The event was a great success.

Students participated enthusiastically in the workshop on Forensics on the 13th and 14th of December 2011. Grade IX resembled a mini Forensics Department where the budding young forensic scientists learnt the real science behind Crime Scene Investigations. The workshop was conducted using all up to date state-of-the-art equipment and was well appreciated by the participants and their parents.

A workshop on Gond Painting was conducted by Ms. Neeta Padgilwar and Ms.Trupti on the 13th and 14th December 2011. The Gond tribe of Madhya Pradesh has a typical style of painting known as ‘Gond Painting’. It mainly depicts paintings of trees, animals and human figures. Students participated with great enthusiasm.

A ‘Booming Bestseller Today’ competition was held on 14th December, 2011 for Grades III and IV .The participants composed a creative message with a catchy tag line to endorse their product. Mrs. Punam Thapan graced the occasion and felicitated the winners. She appreciated the initiative taken by all the participants in advertising their product.

A Clay Modelling Competition was conducted on the 14th December 2011. All the participants were very talented and enthusiastic. We were fortunate enough to get our esteemed judges - Mrs Mamta Patro and Mrs Amrita Bhadeshwar. Natasha Vaswan, Noor Shah and Shriya Chandel were awarded the 1st , 2nd and 3rd prize respectively .

A Western Solo Dance Competition - ‘Krazzy Kiya Re’ was conducted on the 14th December, 2011. There were some brilliant performances put up by the participants from various schools in Pune. The competition was judged by Ms Varsha Sheshan, a noted Bharatnatyam artist who inspired the participants with words of encouragement.

ICSE Section

We at Vibgyor High, had our final ICSE Affiliation Inspection on 8th December 2011. Honourable Fr. Thomas Chittoo of the St. Francis School, Shamli - Muzaffarnagar visited the school premises and conducted a detailed check of our laboratories, library , computer lab, SPA facilities, administrative and academic records etc. During the inspection, Fr.Thomas came in close contact with the multi- faceted personality of our dear Principal and admired her leadership qualities. Later, Fr.Chittoo left the school premises a satisfied man.

Primary Section

The Culminating Activity of Grade II (ICSE) was conducted on 30th November 2011. The theme was based on the Social Science topic ‘The Living World’. The students enacted a role play on ‘Community Helpers ’ followed by a melodious song on the different seasons. This activity highlighted the talents of the students and the knowledge they have imbibed throughout this phase.

The students of Grade II(CIPP) participated in an archaeological hunt on 29th November 2011 in keeping with the V- Concepts topic ‘Finding with the Past’. The students posed as young archaeologists and discovered objects like old coins, maps, broken bangles, paintings etc. They also learnt how old artefacts lead to unraveling the mysteries of the past.

The students of Grade I (CIPP) participated in a ‘Cricket Match‘ which was held on 29th November 2011, on the school play ground as a part of the V- Concept topic ‘Celebration’. The students invited their dear Principal to bowl the first ball of the opening over as well as to keep a score of the innings. After a tough match wherein both teams tried to outdo the other, the better team walked away with the cricket cup.

The Culminating Activity of Grade IV (ICSE) was conducted on the 29th of November 2011. The theme was based on the Social Science topic ‘Eat Healthy, Stay Fit'. The students presented an entertaining skit on the concept of a balanced diet. Children dressed up as their favourite fruit/vegetable and spoke about its importance in our diet. A foot tapping song on eating healthy rounded up the show. The project and art work displayed by the students was highly appreciated by the parents.

A module on ‘Extended Questioning Strategies’ was conducted on the 1st of December 2011 for the teachers of the Primary Section. The main objective of this module was to highlight the importance of questioning skills and how questioning skills can be used effectively in class room teaching. Extended questioning techniques assist teachers to understand, analyze, evaluate and enhance the thinking and cognitive abilities of the children.

The 2nd PTM for the Primary Section (ICSE Grades I–IV) was held on the 3rd of November 2011. The teachers addressed the parents’ queries concerning their ward and apprised them of the areas in which their children can excel. They also dealt with different strategies of improving the child's overall performance. The parents were satisfied and left on a happy note.

A field trip to The Meteorological Department on 7th December, 2011 was very interesting for Grade VI(CIE). Various instruments required to record changes in the atmosphere were shown to the students. Mr.Buchunde from the Met department explained how Meteorological instruments record the data such as atmospheric pressure, wind speed and direction, temperature, relative humidity and transmit it to the meteorological observatories by radio transmitter.

A module on ‘Extended Questioning Strategies’ was conducted on 5th December, 2011 for the Secondary Section . This module enhanced the importance of questioning as a tool for the teachers not only during evaluation but also for effective teaching.

The students of Grade V (ICSE) were taken for a field trip to Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum on the 8th & 9th of December 2011. The Museum established in 1962, is famous for its collection of ancient artefacts in stone, wood, metal, ivory, fabric and clay. Students were taken on a gallery walk where utensils, lamps, armours, musical instruments etc, were displayed. Mastani Mahal (recreated ‘Palace of Mastani’) was the major attraction as it depicted the grandeur of Peshwa life. It was an informative trip.

The students of Grade VII (ICSE) were taken for a field trip to Katraj Dairy on 28th November, 2011. The students were shown a documentary on how milk is processed. They were then taken to the Pasteurization Plant, where they witnessed the different stages of milk production. The field trip was very informative and the students enjoyed themselves thoroughly.

A field trip to Aga Khan Palace was conducted for the students of Grade VIII (ICSE) on 5th December 2011. After an informative talk on the history and the importance of the palace, the students toured the museum and feasted their eyes on the assortment of displays. The trip ended with the students paying homage at the Kasturba Gandhi Samadhi.

The National Science Talent Search Examination (NSTSE) was held on the 4th of December, 2011. Students from Grades II to IX (124) appeared for the same. The examination was conducted smoothly and the children were able to complete their paper in the specified time. It was a learning experience for the children .

The brilliant effort of the students of Vibgyor High Pune in the Check Point Examination 2011 has done us all proud. Manan Shah topped with a perfect 6.0 in English, Mathematics and Science. Varun Desai and Devavrat Bodas followed suit with an excellent 5.9 average. Riya Maan and Mint Pandey have both secured fourth place. We congratulate the students on their remarkable performance.

Mohak Bhattacharya of Grade 2E (ICSE) participated in the MaRRs International Spell Bee Competition 2010-11. This little genius of our esteemed organization has done us all proud by scoring XVI rank at the National Level Championship held at Lulu International Convention at Thrissur, Kerala in October 2011. The 2nd PTA was conducted on the 15th of November, 2011. The meeting was attended by the Chairman, Joint Secretary, Grade Representatives and PTA members. The forthcoming VIVA preparations formed the highlights of the meeting. Parents expressed their satisfaction over the smooth functioning of the school and stressed upon the need for career counseling for the senior students. The Principal reassured the parents that the same would be provided to the students in the near future.

The students of Grade IX (CIE) and Grade AS hosted a farewell for Grade X (CIE) and A2 level (batch of 2010-11) on the 19th of November, 2011. The host (Grade IX) sang songs and put up a rollicking dance for their seniors. It was a touching moment when our Principal addressed the children and presented them with mementos. We bid adieu to our graduating batch and wish them all the very best for the future.

The students of Grade V (ICSE) went for a field trip to ‘Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Muktangan Exploratory Science Centre’ on 22nd November, 2011. The students were shown few experiments like The working of a Fountain (Physics), Decomposition Reaction (Chemistry) and slides of hydra, butterfly scale and blood cell (Biology) to enhance their learning. The live specimen of a goat brain fascinated the students and the trip proved to be a wonderful experience for them.

PRIMARY SECTION

Orientations on Abacus and Domestic & International Sports Tour were held on 19th of November 2011. The parents were briefed about the importance of learning ABACUS, the syllabus at various levels and the course duration for the same. The Sports orientation detailed the various opportunities provided by the school for young soccer enthusiasts to participate in tournaments to be held in Goa (Multi Games Championship), Dubai (TTD International Super Cup) and Sweden (Gothia Cup). The parents displayed keen interest and raised several queries which were satisfactorily addressed.

Education Expo 2011, a Times of India venture was organized on the 19th & 20th of November 2011, at hotel Sun- n-Sand, Pune. VIBGYOR High was the only participating school at this event. There were several Management Institutes/Colleges who were luring prospective students with various graduate and post-graduate courses. We had inquiries with regard to the curriculum being offered and the standards that our school catered to.

The children of Grade III (ICSE) presented their Culminating Activity on the 16th of November, 2011. The innovative and creative use of props enhanced the performance of the children and brought life to the characters of the reader James and the Giant Peach. The students also showcased the life and progress of Early Man. The parents thoroughly enjoyed the act put forth by their little ones.

The 3rd PTM for CIPP (Grades I–V) was conducted on 19th of November 2011. The parents met their respective class teacher and subject teachers and got feedback about their ward. The parents went home on a happy note as the teachers addressed their concerns on a one to one basis.

The students of Grade II(CIPP) visited the construction site of ‘The Royale Heritage Mall’ on 21st November 2011, in keeping with the V-Concept topic ‘Structures’. The supervisor explained the process of concrete making and the basic functions of earth moving equipment like the excavator, bulldozer etc. The children understood the terminology associated with construction like foundation, columns, slab etc. This field trip helped in cementing the children’s foundation in architecture.

The students of Grade I put up a splendid show in the form of Culminating Activity based on Literature- The Cat in the Hat and Social Science – Seasons on 22nd and 23rd of November 2011. The children enacted their part enthusiastically and happily. The applause and appreciation from the audience boosted the confidence level of the students. The project and art work displayed by the students was a visual delight.

Children's Day was celebrated on 14th of Nov 2011 in keeping with the theme “Fairytale Fantasia”. The class rooms were decorated beautifully with different fairy tale characters. The little creative minds expressed their dreams in the form of a wall mural. The children fondly remembered our first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. The day ended with the students being treated to nutritive and sumptuous snacks.

The students of Grade II (CIPP) had a truly unique experience on 16th of November 2011. In keeping with the topic ‘Structures’ in V-Concepts, the students made their own bricks in order to construct a real house. The process entailed - mixing of clay and sand and making rectangular blocks out of it and then firing the bricks to help them gain strength. Later, the children built a house with these bricks. An activity that will be surely remembered for a lifetime!

In keeping with the topic “Celebrations” in V-Concepts, the children of Grade I (CIPP) prepared “Chocolate Rocks” on the 18th of November 2011. Bars and bars of chocolate were melted and nuts were added to make a delicious mixture – Truly Food For The Gods!! We are sure that Chocolate, will now be a part of every celebration at home, what with our little one’s raring to prepare it themselves!!!

Our young achievers, Abdul Samad and Ritika Lakshminarayan of Grade IV participated in the UCMAS Pune Region Zonal Competition, held on 20th November, 2011 at Garware College Campus. Over 1000 students across Pune and its neighbouring districts participated in this Abacus competition which involved solving 200 numerical sums within a short duration of eight minutes. Abdul and Ritika did VIBGYOR High proud by securing the second and third runners up position respectively in the intermediate B level.

JAIPUR TRIP

The students of Vibgyor High Pune (NIBM & Balewadi) left for Jaipur on the 15th of October 2011. During their 6 day tour, the students visited the wildlife sanctuary at Ranthambore, the Narayan and Lotus Temple, the Red Fort, the Jama Masjid and the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The beauty and splendour of ‘The Taj Mahal’ left the students mesmerized.

GOA TRIP

The students of Grades V – IX of Vibgyor High Pune (NIBM & Balewadi) left for Goa on a 6 day tour (15th – 20th Oct 2011). During their stay, the students visited beaches, churches, an organic spice farm, a cashew factory and the famous Aguada Fort. The students enjoyed the various games organized for them. The trip was an exciting and fun-filled experience for the children.

On the 20th & 21st of October 2011, a Coordinators’ Meet was organized at VIBGYOR High (NIBM). Coordinators from Pune ( NIBM & Balewadi ) and Kolhapur centres attended the same. The students of Vibgyor High, NIBM Centre have carved a niche for themselves in the Inter School Science and Mathematics Quiz Competition organized by the Muktangan Exploratory Science Centre on the 30th of September, 2011. After battling four rigorous elimination rounds, the champions, Neel Kapse (Gr X), Ashay Vipin Kumar (Gr IX) and Gauresh Ramakrishna (Gr VIII), have proved their excellence by securing the second place in this prestigious event  wherein 51 schools across Pune city participated.

On the 27th of September 2011, the  children of Grade 2 (CIPP) built houses of cards in keeping with the V Concepts topic “Structures”.  This activity was aimed at making the children understand the finer aspects that are involved in construction like balance, timing and creativity. On the 27th of September 2011, the  children of Grade 4 (ICSE) had their first Literature Culminating Activity. The show commenced with two skits performed by the children based on the reader ‘ Matilda’. An interesting quiz “ Are You Smarter than a Fourth Grader?” was conducted for the parents. Thereafter, the children sang a mellifluous song which left the parents spellbound. The efforts of the students  were appreciated by the parents.

Master Shrimat Kapoor, student of Grade V of Vibgyor High, Pune secured the 5th Rank in the Maharashtra State Championship 2010-2011 of the MaRRS International Spelling Bee in category III held at Pinnacle High International School and has been selected to represent the school at the National Championship of the competition. He received two trophies  and a certificate for the same.

The students of Grade I (CIPP) went for a field trip to Landmark Stores on 16th of September 2011, and visited the toy section, in keeping with their V concepts topic ‘Toys’. The children were  excited, as they got an opportunity to see a wide array of toys made from different material. It was a complete educational experience for them, a combination of fun and learning!

The students of Grade II (CIPP)  set up an exhibition on “Natural Environment” on 22nd September, 2011 in keeping with the topic ‘Environment’ in V Concepts. They created miniature models of different kinds of habitats and spoke at length about the various aspects of that habitat. Teachers and students from other classes visited this exhibition. All were impressed by the effort put in by the children.

On the 5th of September, 2011, Vishwa Jagriti Mission Trust organised a memorable function to felicitate a few renowned and distinguished teachers of Pune city. Mrs. D Ahlowalia, Principal VIBGYOR HIGH (NIBM) was honoured as the chief guest for the event. The function began with a colourful fusion dance which set a vibrant note for the entire evening. The function was also graced by eminent personalities like Mata Krishna Kashyap, Head-Vishwa Jagriti Mission Trust, Mrs and Maj. Gen. Rao - Secretary, Mrs. and Mr. Shetty – President. A moving and scintillating speech on the role of teachers in this dynamically changing world was delivered by the Principal which inspired & enriched the august gathering.

A field trip for Grade I was organized to the vegetable and fruit section of the  ‘More Supermarket’ on  the 30th of August 2011, to know more about vegetables and fruits. The students were able to distinguish between one-seeded and many-seeded  fruits .They were also able to differentiate between vegetables which can be eaten raw and cooked. Overall it was an enjoyable and educative trip.

The students of Grade V and Grade II (CIPP) went for a field trip to the Empress Garden on the 8th of September 2011 in keeping with their Science topics ‘Environment’ and ‘Life Cycles’, respectively. They got an opportunity to explore and know more about the environment and life cycle of plants. They saw different types of seeds and saplings and enjoyed the trip as it was very informative and related to the topic.

The students of Grade II (ICSE) went for a field trip to an old age home, “Punyadham Ashram” on the 9th of September  2011.The objective of the field trip was to sensitize the students towards senior citizens and their needs and recognize their contribution in shaping the society. The students of Grade IV (ICSE) went on a field trip to the Rajiv Gandhi National Park on the 9th of September 2011, a conservation park boasting a vast collection of snakes, reptiles, birds and turtles. The teachers informed the students about the way they were classified according to their habitat. The field trip was enlightening and the children enjoyed themselves.

The First PTA meeting of the Secondary Section (ICSE and IGCSE) was conducted on the 8th of August 2011. It was a resounding success . The parents expressed their gratitude towards the school and its management for extending such a forum wherein they can come forward and participate actively in all matters concerning the school.

To enable the students to understand the responsibilities of people towards their profession, a field trip to Axis Bank was organized for the students of  Grade II on the 16th of August  2011.  For most of the children, it was their first visit to the bank and  they were thrilled to see how bank employees serve their customers with zest and zeal.

The second PTM for CIPP, Grade I to V was conducted on Saturday, 20th of August 2011. Parents met the respective teachers of their wards and got feed back on their child's performance . Attendance for the PTM was good and parents left on a happy note.

The students of Grade IV CIPP presented a special assembly on the 26th of August 2011, in keeping with the topic ‘Rainforest’ in V Concepts. The children conveyed the importance of rain forests through a skit. The art work done on the related topic was also displayed.

A toy fair was organized for the students of Grade I ( CIPP) in their respective classes on the 25th of August 2011. The children brought their favourite toys to school and explained their functioning to other children and teachers who visited their class. They enjoyed carrying their toys with them all day, introducing them to their friends in other sections. Overall, the students had a great time!

A module on Power of Values was conducted for the Primary teachers on the 20th of August 2011. The main objective of the module was to create awareness about moral values amongst teachers. The interactive session was aimed at inculcating a sense of personal and professional pride both for self and  the organization at large.

The Science Culminating Activity of Grade V A (ICSE) was held on the 19th  of August, 2011. The topic was ‘Structure and function of plant parts and pollination.’ The programme began with a welcome speech followed by a powerpoint presentation. A role-play on the theme was enacted by the students, followed by a treasure hunt activity for the parents which was very entertaining. It concluded with a viewing of the Class Worksheets and the creative charts made by the students.

A Culminating Activity for Grade V D (ICSE) in Mathematics was held on the 19th of August 2011. The topic was ‘Fractions’ and the skit ‘Alligator in the Swamp’. was a huge success. A game was played with the parents and the show ended with a power point presentation by the students informing the audience about the basic concepts of fractions. The activity was very lively, informative and entertaining.

A Biology Culminating Activity for grade VII A was conducted on the 25th of August 2011 on the topic of “The levels of organization in living organisms.” The programme began with students giving a brief introduction, followed by a presentation of the “Lower levels of organization”. The “Higher levels of organization” was enacted by the students. A short activity was conducted for the parents by the students ending with a viewing of the class work sheets and models made by the students.

A field trip was conducted to the Artificial Limb Center on the 18th of August 2011 for the Grade VII students. They were shown a presentation on the establishment of ALC and its entire functioning. Wing Commander Satish MS, Prosthetic surgeon briefed the students about the types of artificial upper and lower limbs being manufactured at ALC. The students were given a tour around the museum. On the whole it was an informative and enriching experience for the students.

The History Culminating Activity of Grade VII (ICSE) was held on the 25th of August 2011, on the topic ‘The Turkish Invasion and the Delhi Sultanate’ .The programme began with a student welcoming the parents and the Principal. A skit ‘Muhammad bin Tughlaq - the Maniacal Genius’ was presented  by the students, followed by a presentation on the monuments built during the Delhi Sultanate. A short quiz was conducted for the parents by a student. The programme concluded with a viewing of the Class Worksheets and project charts made by the students

The students of Grade IX were taken on a field trip to Magarpatta City on the 16th of August 2011. Mr. Manik Sharma, Marketing Officer, Magarpatta spoke about the infrastructural layout of the city.  The students were made aware of preservation and the importance of  the environment.   The highlight of the city was the rain water harvesting, the filtration plant and the treatment plant that has made the city self-sufficient for all its water needs.

Zoo fascinates everybody- young and old. It was one such unforgettable experience for students of Grade VIA and VIIA (CIE), when they went to Katraj Zoological Garden on the 18th of August 2011. They got a peek into the animal kingdom. Students showed keen interest, observing the behaviour of animals kept in captivity. They were enthralled at the sight of the white tiger and a family of bears. It was an opportunity be with nature and forget about their studies.

The first PTM (ICSE and IGCSE) for the Secondary Section for the academic year 2011- 2012 was held on the 20th of August 2011. The parents were informed about their wards progress and looked through test papers. It was a resounding success.

An Overnight Field Trip was organised on the 27th - 28th August 2011 to Khandala for Grades IX and X.(ICSE and IGCSE). A trek to the Bhaje Caves in the rain gave us access to awe-inspiring scenery with waterfalls and a mist shrouding the history of the Buddhist era. Everyone was astounded by the artist and his realistic wax statues of Greats - no need to travel to Mme Tussauds Wax Museum. An eye – opener was the Lions Club for the aged Blind where they are taught to make colourful candles, gossamer crochet shawls, bedcovers, bags and so much more. A thoroughly enjoyable two days.

As a part of the topic  Holidays in Vibgyor Concepts, students of Grade I ( CIPP) visited the  travel agency “ Thomas Cook “  on the 11th of August  2011. This helped them understand how travel agencies plan and offer great holiday packages. They  were made aware of  all the details that a travel agency takes care of so that our holidays are enjoyable and hassle free.

The first Culminating Activity of Grade II was held on the 1st and 2nd of August 2011.The children put up a splendid display of their talents and skills to present a skit and songs based on the reader  “Thank you Amelia Bedelia“ and Fire Safety Rules in Social Science. There was a wonderful display of all the activities done by the students. A traffic park was created at the entrance. The culminating activity was very beautifully essayed and was a great success.

The Children of Grade III (ICSE) had an opportunity to visit a village Holkarwadi on the 3rd of August 2011. The purpose of this field trip was to enhance their knowledge about village life and its functioning. The children got a hands-on experience by interacting with the Sarpanch and the Gramsevak.

The students of  Grade IV(ICSE) had their first Social Science Culminating Activity on the 5th of August, 2011.The theme was ‘My Nation My Pride’. The show commenced with a skit on ‘Save Trees’ to emphasize the importance of trees in our lives, followed by an informative and interactive presentation on Butterflies. Children dressed up as the Achievers of India and spoke a few lines about them. The show ended with a foot tapping song on ‘Photosynthesis’. All the children participated with a lot of enthusiasm and the parents appreciated their effort.

The students of Grade V (CIPP) went for a field trip to IUCAA, Pune University on the 8th of August 2011 in keeping with the V- Concepts topic “Mission to Mars". It helped the children to understand the relationship between the earth and the other planets. It gave them further insight about other celestial systems. They also had the opportunity to visit the science park in the same premises. All in all, it was a great educational experience for our students.

The 1st PTM for ICSE Primary Section was conducted on the 6th of August 2011. The parents met the class teacher and the subject teachers and got  feed back about their ward. All concerns about the child was discussed on a one on one basis.

ACTIVITIES held from 1st to 15th August, 2011
SECONDARY SECTION

On the 8th  of August 2011, a field trip was conducted to Joshi’s Museum of Miniature Railways for the students of Grade V (ICSE). The students were given a talk on the history of railways with an actual simulated model. They learnt how the journey of railways started with the steam engine and ended with the fast bullet train. The trip was an amazing experience for the children.

On the 1st of August 2011, a Field Trip was conducted to Deccan College Archeology Museum for the students of Grade VI (ICSE). The students were given a talk by Mr.Pramod Dandawate in which he enlightened the students about the different branches of Archeology. He also explained about the Stratigraphy and Culture-Sequence excavation at Nevasa, Ahmednagar, Maharashtra. Then the students were taken for a gallery walk in the different departments where the excavated artifacts were exhibited.

Students of Grade VII (ICSE) visited IUCAA in the Pune University Campus, on the 3rd of August 2011. Students were given an explanation on the applications of the principles of science in daily life, such as differences in the gravity in moon and mars in relation to the gravity on Earth. A demonstration of reflection of sound waves and resonance was given. It was an interactive session. This trip was an enriching one.

On the 10th of August 2011, a field trip was conducted to the Indian Meteorological Department for the students of Grade VIII (ICSE).  The students were taken through a gallery walk where the measuring instruments were displayed. This was followed by a visit to the Surface Observatory which is an automatic weather station (DDGM).  A guide was also provided by the Instrument division to explain about the observatory.

Students of Grade IX and X visited an Old Age Home as part of their community service programme in SUPW. They interacted with the inmates and presented a song at their request. They also met the resident doctor who spoke  about the daily routine of the inmates. Students presented a paper flower bouquet to the doctor. It was a different  experience for the students.

A trip into the world of those who need our empathy. Grades AS and IX (IGCSE) were taken on a field trip to The Queen Mary Institute in Khadki on the 9th of August 2011. The trip helped the students to meet soldiers who were disabled in the line of duty. The CEO of this totally charitable institute felt the need to sensitize young people to the plight of these men.

On the 10th of August, an Inter-House Competition was held from Grades V to IX. Grade V had to speak on their favourite Achiever. Grade VI made charts on Unity in Diversity, Grade VII IC and IG combined had a vibrant and colourful Dance Competition, Grade VIII made attractive, original charts on ‘What the National Emblem means to them’, Grade IX IC and IG had a debate on British Rule in India – Boon or Bane.  The students showed a lot of enthusiasm and creativity.

On the 6th of August, 2011 , a module for teachers was conducted on the topic – The Power of Values. The teachers were asked to rate the value in accordance to their preference and the reason for it. A presentation was shown, and there was a talent hunt competition among the groups.  This was done to motivate the teachers and to incorporate the importance of the value of team spirit in the organization.

Vibgyor High Pune, celebrated the 64th Independence day by hoisting the Indian flag, followed by an inspiring speech by our Principal Ms. D. Ahlowalia. The Student Council led the ceremony and the school President gave a warm speech. A colourful dance performance was put up by the students. It was a solemn as well as an enriching experience for all present.

The under-12 Football team of VIBGYOR High, Pune participated in The Bishop’s School Invitational Football Tournament, held from 22nd to 24th of July 2011 at The Bishop’s School. Our team reached the third round and was awarded the Fair Play trophy.

ACTIVITIES held from 11th to 17th July 2011

The much - awaited results for the MaRRs Spell Bee competition, conducted in Kolhapur on 17th July 2011, brought several laurels for students of VIBGYOR High, Pune. The winners proudly received their certificates and mementos from the Principal. Out of the 29 VIBGYOR High, Pune participants, 11 students from both primary and secondary sections topped the charts.

Task Management

The module on Task Management was conducted on the 22nd of July 2011 for the Primary Teachers. The objectives and strategies of Task management were explained with the ice breaker activity which was enthusiastically performed by the teachers. The rules for effective class room management were discussed, laying emphasis on the fact that students enjoy an environment that changes periodically.

Curios George Visits the Mall
The Culminating Activity of  Grade I was conducted on the 28th and 29th of July 2011. The programme showed the amalgamation of concepts  taught in Phase 1 in the form of a  very interesting and humorous drama - Curious George visits a Mall. Children participated with great zeal and the parents were very happy . They also took great interest in going through the Art work and worksheets displayed in the A.V  Room. Overall it was a great success.

The Proffesionals
To enable the students to understand roles and responsibilities of people towards their profession, a role play was organized for the entry point for Grade II (CIE) students on the 21st of July 2011. Students came dressed up as Rock Stars, Bank Managers, Cricketers, Astronauts, Football players, etc. They enacted these roles with enthusiasm and confidence. ‘The Universe and the Solar System
The first culminating activity of this year for Grade III was held on the 20th  of July 2011. The theme was ‘The Universe and the Solar System’. The students dressed up as the sun and the eight planets to emphasize their importance and uniqueness. The four seasons sang melodiously and reminded everyone why all seasons are so special. The parents were mesmerized by the flawless performances of their wards.

Helping Plants  to Grow Well
The students of Grade III & IV (CIPP) went for a field trip to Empress Garden on the 29th of July 2011, in keeping with the Science & V-Concepts ‘ Helping Plants  to Grow Well ‘ and ’ Rain Forest’. It helped the children to understand the condition in which plants grow well and also to know about the ways in which animals and plants are suited to life in the rainforest.

The Aga Khan Palace
The Aga Khan Palace is a historically important place in Pune. Students of Grade 6 and 7(CIE) were taken there for a field trip on the 20th of July 2011.  They visited the palace and its museum, where items belonging to Mahatma Gandhi, Kasturba and other political prisoners are displayed, and Gandhiji’s Samadhi . The students learnt a lot and could relate to the freedom fights of India and the making and development of the Constitution of India taught in class.

Agricultural College
A field trip was conducted on  the 19th of July 2011 for the Grade IX (ICSE) students to the Agricultural College. Students learnt about the various Horticultural techniques and also observed poly houses, which are a kind of green house where horticultural techniques are performed. Students were informed about different fertilizers used for different types of flowers and the cultivation of capsicum plants.

Life On Earth
The Culminating Activity in Science of Grade VI (ICSE) was held on the 22nd of July 2011, on the topic ‘Life on Earth’. The programme began with a student welcoming the parents and the Vice Principal.
The children presented their own PPTs on various topics and enacted the process of photosynthesis and respiration and the dependence on plants for food by the living things. All the parents participated in the drawing activity with a lot of zest. The programme was concluded with a viewing of the Class Worksheets and the creative charts made by the students with the vote of thanks.

The English Culminating Activity
The English Culminating Activity of Grade VII (ICSE) was held on the 27th of July 2011, on the topic ‘Grammar: Parts of Speech’ .The programme began with a student welcoming the parents .A poem on the theme was recited by the students, followed by an activity for the parents who enthusiastically participated in the same. The programme was concluded with a viewing of the Class Worksheets and the creative charts made by the students.

Inter House Hindi Language Skills
Inter - house Hindi Language skills competitions was held on the 26th of July 2011 for secondary CIE  and ICSE students. Students of Grade V honed their skills in writing a story on the picture given to them. Students of grade VI used  their Hindi language skills in writing an essay. Grade VII and VIII wrote a story with a moral. Grade IX students showcased their language skills with a humorous speech in Hindi.

Butterfly Park
Grades V A,B,C(ICSE) went for a field trip to Butterfly Park at Sahakarnagar on the 25th  of July 2011. The garden had colourful butterflies and a variety of plants .The students saw the lifecycle of a butterfly in the form of larva and pupa in the green house . The trip to the garden was an enriching experience for the students.

Temple Of Environment in Amanora City
Students of Grade VIII (ISCE) visited the Temple of Environment in Amanora City related to Environment and Science subjects. Students saw the Temple of Environment which has a golden tree enclosed in a glass prism to show the essence of preserving our environment. The tree stands as a gift from nature and its golden form portrays its important value. The prism is associated with spreading of  positive energy.
Students also saw the water filtration plant and a wind mill. The trip was an enriching experience.

Visit to the School for the Deaf

Students of Grade II (CIE) visited a School For The Deaf on the14th  of July 2011.
The students were keen to learn sign language and communicate with the special children.
It helped them to understand the challenges faced by these children and the importance of supporting them.

Procedure Of Travelling

To understand the procedure while travelling, an airport scene was put up for the children of Grade I (CIE) on
the 14th of July 2011.
Children came to school dressed in holiday clothes and some of them came in dressed as airline crew and ground staff.
They were taken on a ‘pretend holiday tour’ to Goa courtesy Entry Point Holidays.

Overnight Camp To Lonavla-Khandala

The students of Grade III and IV (ICSE & CIE) went for an overnight camp to Lonavala- Khandala
(15th  & 16th of July, 2011). The children were put up at Zara’s resort at Lonavala. The trip included several
indoor and outdoor games, competitions, dancing and even a treasure hunt. A visit to the famous Maganlal Chikki
Factory and NAB school for blind was organized for the children. They were amazed to see how the blind people work
for a living. The children enjoyed this overnight experience and are eagerly looking forward to their next camping
adventure.

Secondary Section

The Artificial Limb Centre

The Artificial Limb Centre (ALC) was setup  to provide artificial limbs to the casualties of the Wars and 
soldiers injured in the line of duty. The students of Grade 8 CIE visited the ALC on the 11 of July 2011.
They were shown a presentation on  artificial limbs made at ALC and  they visited the workshops and saw the
process of making an artificial limb. Every limb is custom made to suit the requirement of individual patients
and calls for precision and   specialized skill to create.

The students of Grade 9 and 10  CIE were taken on a field trip to the Armed Forces Medical College on the 13 th of July 2011. They visited the Department of Community Diseases and its museum where they saw exhibits of community diseases, read articles on prevention of these diseases. The students learnt a lot and could relate to units being learned in science.

Engish Culminating Activity

On the 15th of July 2011, an English Culminating Activity was held by Grade VI-ICSE students on Punctuation Marks.
The programme had a small role-play on the theme by the students, followed by a treasure hunt activity for the
parents. Parents reviewed what they knew about punctuation and felt a sense of déjà vu. Class worksheets and
creative charts of the students were also displayed.

Frank Anthony Debate Competition

Vibgyor High, Pune hosted the Frank Anthony Memorial Debate on the 24th of June 2011. Ten schools participated from Maharashtra. Three judges were invited to grace the occasion. The Principal presented a welcome speech, the HOD, English acted as the Chair Person .The audience comprised of students from all the participating schools accompanied with their teachers. In the end the Best Speaker “Neelanjana Ghosh, Cambridge School, Mumbai”, 1st Runner up “Asad Kadgaonkar, St. Mary’s School, Pune” and the Best Team “Vidya Valley” were chosen. It was a toughly fought match with well thought of and well enunciated speeches. The Vice Principal gave a vote of thanks.

Coffee Meet (ICSE Grades I to IV)

A Coffee Meet for the parents of new students of ICSE Grades I to IV was held on the 2nd  of June 2011. The inaugural address was made by the Principal, Ms D Ahlowalia.  A sneak preview into the curriculum, various sports activities and special events was given to the parents by the Primary Coordinators. The meet was an interactive session wherein all apprehensions and queries were laid to rest. The parents visited the Discovery Room, which showcased the projects, art work, books and other curriculum aids used at Primary level. Class Lists were displayed and parents got an opportunity to meet the teachers.

Coffee Meet(IG SECONDARY)

Coffee meet for IG Secondary was conducted on 2nd June 2011. A presentation on the school facilities, curriculum and assessment policies along with the Cambridge Board benefits were given to the parents. A Coffee Meet was organized on 2nd June 2011 for parents, to orient them with the  Secondary ICSE curriculum.  Information on the complete curriculum based on the Vision and the Mission of the institute was given. A field trip to Shivarkar Garden was conducted on 5th April, 2011 pertaining to the Social Science topic “Visit to important neighbourhood places.” The objective of this trip was to have an Outbound Environment Education and learn about the importance of neighbourhood places. It was a very enriching experience for our enthusiastic students.

Road Safety and Traffic Signals

An activity to explain the rules about Traffic Signals was conducted for Grade 2 students pertaining to the topic of ‘Road Safety and Traffic Signals.’ A traffic park was created on the school ground which gave the students a realistic idea of traffic signals and rules. The students thoroughly enjoyed the activity as it was fun and very informative.

Mesmeric Rendezvous

The most awaited CIPP Culminating Activity, ‘Mesmeric Rendezvous’ was held on 8th April, 2011. The theme was all about enchantment. A variety of programs included a shadow play by young children of Grade 1 and 2 and performance poetry by Grade 3, 4 and 5. There were also entertaining performances in Hindi and French. Separate Math and V-Concept rooms were created showcasing the activities conducted throughout the year. On the whole it was an enjoyable experience for the parents.

The students of Grade 2 ICSE went on a field trip to Shivarkar Garden on 24th March, 2011. The students observed the street names and important landmarks on their way to the garden from their school. They also observed the different sections of the garden and made a note of main items to be used 11on a garden map. It was a fun filled learning experience for the children

Field Trip To Radio Mirchi Studio

The students of Grade I A CIPP went on a field trip to Radio Mirchi Studio on 25th March, 2011 in keeping with their V concept topic ‘Communication’. The children learnt how a recording studio functions and the different communication devices used at the studio.

Dharidar Bagh ka Naach

The students of Grade IV conducted their Culminating Activity in Hindi on 15th March, 2011. They enacted the skit- ‘Dharidar Bagh ka Naach.’ A PowerPoint presentation on tigers was shown to the parents and finally they sang ‘Baagh ko Bachao.’ There was also a chart display on village life versus city life. The parents were full of praises and enjoyed every moment of it.

Cambridge International Primary Programme (CIPP)

An Orientation was organized for parents of Primary Section, to help them understand the Cambridge International Primary Programme (CIPP). Parents were taken through a presentation which had the details of the programme, and they also visited the discovery room where the text books, children's work and teaching aids were displayed. The parents’ queries were appropriately addressed in the interactive session.

Trip To Panchgani

On 17th and18th of March, 2011 students of Grade III and IV went for an Overnight Trip to Panchgani. They visited the Mapro Garden and Chocolate Factory, and saw how the products (Chocolate, Jam, Syrup etc) were made. They also went to the Table Land where different activities like short treks were organized for the students. In the evening the kids went to a discotheque and danced away their blues.

ORIENTATION DAY

An Orientation Day for the parents was held on 5th March, 2011 for CIPP Grade II to V. Parents were taken through a presentation on the CIPP curriculum and later familiarized with the activities that are done in the CIPP classrooms in the ‘Discovery Room’. The parents’ queries and apprehensions (vis-à-vis the acceptability of the curriculum in India) were laid to rest during the question hour.

Students and teachers of Grade V showcased a Culminating  Activity in Hindi on the topic ‘Rakt ki kahani.’ They explained the importance of blood in our body through a PowerPoint presentation and drama. Parents were impressed and delighted with the Hindi presentation and enjoyed the activity.

The Culminating Activity on the Biology topic ‘Economic Importance of Bacteria and Fungi’

The Culminating Activity on the Biology topic ‘Economic Importance of Bacteria and Fungi’  was conducted by Grade VII on 11th March, 2011. The students prepared beautiful props and a PowerPoint presentation for the purpose. They performed a dance showcasing ‘Locomotion and Reproduction by Binary Fission in Amoeba.’ The students also wrote a play and enacted the method by which antibodies are produced by White Blood Cells and how vaccination was invented. The parents too participated in the poster making activity and highly appreciated the students’ works.

Students of Grade VI showcased the Culminating Activity on Geography on 28th February, 2011. The topics were ‘Oasis Dwellers’ and ‘Bushmen of Kalahari Desert.’ Artefacts, worksheets and projects were displayed for the parents. A PowerPoint presentation was conducted by a student. The parents were thrilled to see the props and the show put up by the children. They congratulated the students and the teachers for their hard work.

CIE Orientation Programme

CIE Orientation Programme was conducted on 5th March, 2011 for ICSE and IGCSE parents. Mrs. D. Ahlowalia, our Principal, introduced the IGCSE, AS and A level system, the curriculum and its benefits to the parents. The IGCSE Coordinator conducted the presentation and replied to queries of the parents. Students’ Projects and the CIE Textbooks were on display for the programme. CROSSWORD BOOK STORE

On 4th March, 2011, the children of Grade 2 CIE visited Crossword Book Store in keeping with the V Concepts topic- ‘Myths, Legends and Fables.’ The children read their favourite books and also enjoyed the Story Telling session conducted by the Crossword staffs, especially for them.

POLLUTION

Students of Grade IV presented a Culminating Activity on 4th March, 2011 on the theme ‘Pollution’. The students enacted the skit- ‘The Day the Air Pollution Gremlins came to Town.’ Presentations were shown on Water and Air Pollution. ACTIVITIES held from 20th February to 25th February, 2011

 

Stress Managment

A module on Stress management was conducted for the Primary teachers. It covered the aspects of physical and mental stress, focusing on the behavioural manifestations of stress. The neuro-biology of stress related symptoms were also discussed. Teachers were given stress tests to gauge their stress levels. The module was very helpful to the teachers as it provided them with comprehensive information about stress and how to deal with it.

The module on Stress Management for the teachers of Secondary section was held on 21st February, 2011. The teachers were asked to take a stress test. Then they were shown a presentation on Stress Management, which ‘stressed’ on the various types of stress and several stress reduction techniques. The module concluded with a meditation session which was thoroughly enjoyed by the staff.

Dori's Visit To The City

The students of Grade I celebrated the Culminating Activity of Phase III on 24th February, 2011. The students performed a play called ‘Dori’s visit to the city’ to highlight the topics– Neighbourhood Services, Transport and Communication. They also displayed their social awareness with a song on “Pollution." They raised slogans on ‘Going Green’ and ‘Keeping the environment clean.’

Tamil Nadu

The state of ‘Tamil Nadu’ was the highlight of the Hindi Culminating activity for Grade VI students. The students presented the life, culture and traditions of the state through beautiful PowerPoint presentation, classical dance form ‘Bharatnatyam’, and traditional food delicacies. The students took pride in the presentation of the event and the parents enjoyed and appreciated the efforts of the students.

Mahadji Shinde Temple

The students of Grade VI (IC) were taken to Mahadji Shinde Temple on 22nd February, 2011. The students got a glimpse of the rulers of Scindia. They appreciated the architecture of the temple and the tomb of Mahadji Shinde. It was an enlightening trip.

Inter School Roller Skating Championship, 2011

On 19th February, 2011 our students walked away with the Overall Championship Trophy for the second time, as well as the Participation Trophy for the maximum number of skaters at the 2nd Inter School Roller Skating Championship, 2011 held at Symbiosis International School, Pune. 19 International schools from Pune, Mumbai and Lonavala participated in this event. With 11 gold medals and an overall total of 29 medals, VIBGYOR High Pune topped the medal tally.

Egyptian Civilization

The students of Grade V put up an exquisite show on the 26th February, 2011, in which the Egyptian Civilization was showcased.The parents went on a guided tour looking at various Egyptian monuments and cultural programs. The parents enjoyed the show put up for them.

Solar Power

The students of Grade IV (ICSE) went on a field trip to Peshwa Energy Park on 25th February, 2011. Excitedly, they witnessed the various renewable sources of energy like Solar Energy, Wind Energy and Biogas Energy. It was a ‘learn with fun’ experience for the inquisitive students. The field trip enhanced their knowledge in Science and Technology.

Traditional Day

A traditional day was held on 25th February, 2011 for Grade III (ICSE). The children came to school in their traditional dresses. They spoke in their vernacular languages and shared traditional food carried by them to school. The objective of this activity was to experience how people from different regions/states have different languages to speak and eat different kinds of food.

Students of Grade III (ICSE) presented the Culminating Activity of Phase III on 25th February, 2011 with great enthusiasm. The students performed a play on “Exploring Matter” where they unfolded the various concepts and ideas learnt in class. They also presented a wonderful song on “Water Cycle” and a mesmerizing poem on “Seasons." The show concluded with a fashion show on uses of water.

Culminating Activity

On 17th February, 2011 a Culminating Activity was conducted by the students of Grade III (ICSE). They enacted a skit in Hindi- Ek Dost Saanp’ which laid emphasis on the famous idiom ’Do not judge a book by its cover.’ The ill-effects of deforestation were highlighted through the skit. The parents then proceeded for a glimpse of various activities and projects exhibited by the students related to the ‘Physical Features of India.'

Rambo Circus

On 14th February, 2011 the children of Grade IA (CIE) were taken to Rambo Circus as a part of V Concept activity “Movement and Entertainment.” The children enjoyed the various tricks performed by the juggler and the clowns.

Traditional Day

Traditional Day was celebrated by the students of Grade I on 17th February, 2011. The students came dressed in their traditional outfits and accessories representing the style of clothing worn in their native states. They learnt about the dresses worn in different states and also about the different fabrics used for the purpose. There was lot of enthusiasm amongst the students as they happily portrayed their culture.

Peshwa Energy Park

The students of Grade VIII (IC) were taken to the Peshwa Energy Park on 17th February, 2011. The generation of power from sources like Sun, water, wind etc. were demonstrated. Renewable resources and their uses were explained to them. The trip was a very informative and enriching.

The students of Grade VI and VII (CIE) were taken to the Katraj Dairy on 8th February, 2011. They attended a presentation on the collection, processing and distribution of milk. The children also got to know the various products made from milk. It was an enriching experience.

Farewell to Grade X - ICSE

A Farewell Party for Grade X – the first ICSE batch of VIBGYOR High, Pune was held on 7th February, 2011. The girls in sarees and boys in formal suits looked  grown up and sombre. They were presented a rose bud and saw a presentation on ‘The Power of Dreams!’ – the theme of the farewell party. Our Principal, Mrs. D. Ahlowalia wished them luck and success for their future. The Grade IX students hosted the event and arranged for the refreshments. Grade X students said goodbye to all the teachers and left with a heavy heart.

Nehru Science Center

The students of Grade IX (CIE) visited the Nehru Science Centre, Mumbai on 9th February, 2011. The students saw various working models based on the laws of Physics. The ‘Human and Machine‘ gallery was based on the working of the various systems in the human body just like machines. They saw an Activity show on the properties of liquid Nitrogen. The students also visited the Mini Planetarium where they studied about constellations. The visit ended with an Odyssey on the “Living sea’. It was an enriching experience.

Forest

The students of Grade VII (ICSE) explored the forests on 9th February, 2011. They were fascinated by the discovery of the Igneous rocks about which they had learnt in their Geography class. They collected samples of soil, rocks and flowers. They also realized the effects of deforestation which was quite evident.

In keeping with the VIBGYOR Concept ‘Machines and Inventions’ the students of Grade IV (CIPP) visited the Inter University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) in Pune. The children learnt to make simple and scientific toys. The entire 3-4 hour session was informative, exciting and full of fun.

The glorious morning of 26th January 2011- Republic Day was celebrated with great fervour at VIBGYOR High, Pune. ACTIVITIES held from 17th January to 19th January, 2011

VIVA 2011  was a pan  Pune extravaganza held on 17th to 19th January, 2011. VIBGYOR High, Pune  provided a common platform for students all over Pune to showcase their literary, artistic, cultural talents through various competitions and workshops. The gymnastic and drill display, and lezim dance were the highlights of the sports day ceremony and were appreciated by all present there. The workshops on archery, fencing, robotics, vivid art, wall murals and photography kept the students enthralled. The participants of the different competitions had a gala time, but the judges had a tough time!

A workshop on ”Interpersonal Communication” was held on 23rd December, 2010 for the Primary Teachers. Since communication is the most important and useful tool for the teachers this workshop helped them to sharpen their skills. The MaRRS SpellBee Competition was held at VIBGYOR High Pune, on 13th December, 2010. The students performed exceedingly well. This event helped them to enhance their vocabulary. A total number of 136 children from the Primary section have qualified for the Interschool competition which will be conducted in the month of February.

The students of Grade IV A to E conducted their Culminating Activity on 15th December, 2010 based on the theme “Our Healthy World.” It covered the Social Science Topics: Minerals and Industries, Forests and Wild Life, Food, Digestive System and Teeth. Students of Grade 8 IC visited the Aga Khan Palace on 15th December, 2010. Students gained knowledge on Mahatma Gandhi’s life, his wife Kasturba Gandhi and secretary Mahadev Desai from books, pictures and various exhibits in the palace. The things used by the family during Mahatma Gandhi’s house arrest were displayed. It was a memorable and informative trip for the students.

Field Trip to Garage

A field trip for Grade 1 students was conducted to the Garage Car- O- Care at Wanowrie on 10th December, 2010. In connection with the topic “Transport & Communication”, the children learnt about the “Causes and Effects of Vehicular Pollution” and ways to reduce the same. They were able to name the different parts of a vehicle. It was a very informative and educational trip.

Trip to the Wanowrie Post Office

The students of Grade-3 (ICSE) went on a field trip to the Wanowrie Post Office on 9th December, 2010. At the Post office the Post Master took the children around and shared information about the working of the post office and the various services offered like money orders, money transfer, air mails, courier services, telegrams etc. The children had an opportunity to enhance their knowledge by asking many questions. The trip was a wonderful learning experience for the students.

Archeological Hunt

Students of Grade II A (CIE) went on an ‘Archeological Hunt’ in the school premises on 7th December, 2010. The objective of this activity was to create awareness among them about how old artefacts lead to unravelling the mysteries of the past. Circus event

On 6th December, 2010, a Circus event was held in Grade I A (CIE). The children were colourfully dressed as different circus characters. Each of them enacted their respective roles, an activity which they enjoyed to the fullest. They learnt new words like juggler, magician, Ring Master, trapeze artists, acrobats etc. The children summed up the event by holding a class discussion about various circus characters.

Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park

 

Students of Grade VI (IC) were taken to the Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park on 7th December, 2010. They saw various types of reptiles and gained knowledge about their habitat. The students were enthralled by the sight of a leopard, white tiger and other animals in the Zoological Park.

Visit to Aga Khan Palace

Students of Grade 8 IG visited the Aga Khan Palace on 7th December, 2010. The objective of this trip was to make the students aware of the Quit India Movement and the contribution of Mahatma Gandhi and his wife Kasturba Gandhi to the freedom struggle. The students also paid tribute at the Samadhi of Kasturba Gandhi and Mahadev Desai (Secretary of Mahatma Gandhi.)

Visit to Aga Khan Palace

Grade V were taken to the Aga Khan Palace. The students were apprised of the construction of the palace and its relevance in Indian History with respect to the Freedom Struggle. They were enlightened about the fact that Mahatma Gandhi, Kasturba Gandhi and Minaben were imprisoned there and that Kasturba Gandhi breathed her last there.

Students of Grade VI and IX (CIE) visited the Parle G Factory at Talegaon on 7th December, 2010. The objective was to get hands-on experience about the technology involved in the manufacture of Parle G biscuits. The visit enlightened them about the world of Parle G– the world’s leading biscuit manufacturer.

Cat in the Hat

The students of Grade I had their Culminating Activity on 2nd and 3rd December, 2010. The activity was based on the reader, ’Cat in the Hat’. The students put up an excellent show acting their part with great ease and enthusiasm. It was followed by a fashion show based on the three ‘Seasons’. The students posed like professional models displaying different attire for different seasons.

Time Machine: The Students of Grade IV A(CIE) went back in time on 30th November, using a Time Machine and celebrated a day without technology. They dressed up for this occasion in the style of the 1900s. The entire class was transformed into a place where objects from the past century were displayed.

Brick Making : Grade II A(CIE) made bricks as a part of their V-Concepts topic ‘Structures’ on 1st December 2010. The children made bricks in the class using mud and sand. They baked the bricks in a clay pot using sand, charcoal and saw dust. They then made a house using those bricks

The students of Grade II A to H conducted their Culminating Activity on 30th November and 1st December 10, based on the theme “The Living World”. The activity exhibited the students’ understanding of the topic and presented a rich conceptual network of their skills. The show began with a skit where the importance of ‘Community Helpers’ was enacted in an impressive way. The show concluded with a colorful presentation of clothes worn in different seasons in a fashion show.

The students of GradeVII (CIE) went on a field trip on 30th November 2010 to Axis Bank. They got a hands-on experience about the functioning of commercial banks. They were shown how money is deposited and withdrawn from the bank and how banks keep safe deposits of the general public. They also gained an insight into the lending activities of the bank.

The ICSE orientation programme for parents of Grade VIII was held on 29th November 2010. A power point presentation was shown regarding the rules and regulations of subject choice and options for the forthcoming ICSE exam 2012-2013. The program was convened By the ICSE coordinator Ms. Jacintha D’counha. It was attended by the parents. Queries regarding subject choice were answered promptly by the respective subject teachers. The parents were promised cooperation of all kinds by the school.

Grade 7 IC went to the Agricultural College on 29th November 2010. It was an enlightening and informative experience for the students. They saw the green house and learnt about drip irrigation, different types of mushroom cultivation and the coco pit, where the coconut shell is used as manure.

A Culminating Activity for Grade V D (ICSE) in Mathematics was held on the 19th of August 2011. The topic was ‘Fractions’ and the skit ‘Alligator in the Swamp’. was a huge success. A game was played with the parents and the show ended with a power point presentation by the students informing the audience about the basic concepts of fractions.
The activity was very lively, informative and entertaining.
