Culminating Activity Grade 3
The Culminating activity conducted on 3rd April 2012 was based on Literature and Social science. The children enacted a few chapters from the novel ‘Charlie and the Chocolate factory’. The children were dressed according to the characters in the novel and played their roles displaying confidence and professionalism.. The theme for Social science was ‘Unity in Diversity’. The children enacted the theme through role plays and also danced to the tune of folk songs from Rajasthan and Punjab. The children performed with great zeal and enthusiasm.
Culminating Activity Grade 2
The culminating activity for grade IIA was conducted on the 30th of March. The culminating activity was based on Literature and Social science The theme for Social science was ‘Changes around me’. The day began with the parents taking a tour of ‘Geography Center’ in the display room where globes, different kinds of maps like the map of India, state maps, map of the school etc were displayed.
The culminating activity consisted of a role play based on the topic ‘ Why the Hippo has a tiny tail’ followed by another interesting role play based on literature ‘Gold Fish don’t take bubble bath’. The children enacted their individual roles as per the characters in a fine manner. The activity was much appreciated by the parents.
Summer camp
The Summer camp at Vibgyor High Balewadi began with a lot of fun and excitement on 12th April 2012. The camp will continue till 30th April. Some of the activities offered at the camp are.
Swimming Skating Basket Ball Net Cricket Gymnastics Decoupage Music Dance
We had a huge response with almost 100 students enrolling for the camp. The first day of the camp began with a warm welcome to the enthusiastic participants which was followed by the various activities. The children had a gala time performing the activities. It was gratifying to see the smiling faces of the children making it evident that they had thoroughly enjoyed their day.
Monthly competitions
The monthly competitions were held through out the primary section with different grades performing different competitions. This time the theme was general knowledge based on Social Science. The children within their grade competed house wise. While grade I, II, III had a Quiz competition with an aim to create more awareness about social science, Grade IV and V had a Pictionary competition with an aim to enhance the student’s vocabulary pertaining to the subject social science. Children participated with great zeal. The spirit of team work was obvious through out all Grades.
Star Achievers~Cyberolympiad
Rushika Gupta of Grade I has made us extremely proud by securing the 12th State Rank and 59th International rank in the second level of the 5th INTERNATIONAL MATHEMATICS OLYMPIAD 2011. It is indeed an heartening moment with our students scaling new heights.
Event : Culminating Activity Grade : I A,B
The culminating activity for grade 1A, IB was conducted on 28th /29th of March respectively. The culminating activity was based on Literature and Social science and consisted of assorted themes. The first skid was based on an excerpt form ‘Nate the Great’ from the literature book while the second skid was on ‘Eat to Live ‘from the Social Science topic ‘Food and Fitness’. The finale of the activity was the ‘Vegetable Fashion Show’ which delighted everyone present as the children had dressed themselves as vegetables and looked very cute in their attire.
Star Achievers
For their excellent performance, where Tosha Sambhus (Grade IV) secured an All India 33rd rank and Ayesha secured the 94th rank in the second level of the Unified Cyber Olympiad 2011, both the girls were aptly rewarded with an appreciation certificate, 2CD Pack of Encyclopedia Britannica – Sudoko Unlimited and Encyclopedia of India worth Rs 990. For being the top 100 rankers from classes 2-5 they were also awarded with a Hand Book of Science - Junior. We are extremely proud of you!
Field Trip Grade: IV
To provide children practical knowledge on the various energy sources, the students of Grade IV were taken to an ‘Energy Park’. The students were made aware of the different energy sources and their importance. They learnt how energy is conserved by improving the efficiency of gadgets. Children had an interactive session with the personnel of the energy park and enquired about the unique features of the park.
Dress Up Day Grade: III
The third Graders came dressed up in vibrant costumes each symbolizing a particular state by donning the traditional attire pertaining to that state. To add more spice they even carried food that is the state’s specialty and displayed them too. This was followed by a speech by each student in respect to the costume, language, food, art and craft of the state. It was a reinforcement of the lesson ‘Diversity In Our Country’. This was culminated by sharing and relishing the various snacks amongst themselves.
Cyber Olympiad 2011
Ayesha Sanholkar (Grade III) and Tosha Sambhus ( Grade IV) have made us extremely proud with Tosha securing an All India 33rd rank and Ayesha securing the 94th rank in the second level of the Unified Cyber Olympiad 2011. It is indeed an heartening moment with these students scaling new heights.

Republic Day
The Republic Day was commemorated on 26th January in great patriotic spirit. The Principal Ms Renuka Dutta unfurled the Indian tricolour followed by a proud rendition of the National Anthem. The school student council President administered the National Pledge, reminding everyone of their duty and dedication towards their nation and also stating how this day, when our constitution came into being, is of utmost importance to us Indians. In her welcome speech the Principal Ms Renuka Dutta reiterated the importance of integrity, honesty and good conduct. She applauded the school teachers for reaching out to each individual student. This was followed by a poignant performance by the 5th graders, show-casing the freedom struggle. The program was attended by parents of grade V students who shared their views stressing on self discipline and the need of every Indian to his part for his country.
Visit to a Radio Station
The students of Grade 1 had an opportunity to visit a radio station in continuation of their lesson ‘Mass Media’. We were extremely fortunate to visit Pune’s own ‘Radio City 91.1 fm’. The Radio City personnel had willingly agreed to let us visit their Radio station. The children had the pleasure of meeting radio jockey Apporva who graciously showed and explained the procedures involved in airing a particular interview , a song , a message etc. The children sang ’Hum Honge Kamya Ek Din” which was aired live.
Monthly competitions
The monthly competitions were held through out the primary section with different grades performing different activities. The activities were age appropriate and well planned activities, hence the theme for Grade 1 was ‘Collage on my Family’, wherein the children had collected pictures of their family depicting memorable moments spent with their family. The Grade 2 children made a collage on ‘My Beautiful country’, wherein the children had collected pictures depicting the different regions and the varied culture of our country.
Grade 3 worked in groups to create a display on ‘National Symbols’ of India. Each group also made 2-3 minute presentations. The symbols included our National Flower, National Bird, National Flag, National emblem etc. The fourth Graders made a collage on ‘Saving the Animals’, depicting the cause and effects of animal endangerment as well as the measures to prevent it.
Grade 5 presented cultures of various states to show their love for their beloved nation. Their presentations were vibrant ,informative and creative.
VIVA Sports and Annual Sports
Sports Day & VIVA Sports is all about including a spirit of true sportsmanship in children, in shaping a child’s holistic growth from an early stage. It also inculcates the spirit of healthy competition. This was our very first Viva and we were all very thrilled and enthusiastic about it.
The pre-primary sports day was held on 15th Dec. Interesting race like ant and the grass hopper, The Thirsty Crow Race, Alibaba and the forty thieves race etc were organized for our little ones.
The primary and the Secondary sports meet was held on 14th Dec, 2011.There was a splendid display of Ball drill, Pom Pom, sitting exercises by the students.This was followed by the tract events. There were races arranged for the teachers and parents as well and we had an overwhelming response for them.
VIVA SPORTS was a success too. Various inter school matches were oraganised like HANDBALL 19 teams participated which had 13 Boys and 6 Girls teams Winner (Boys) SPM School Nigadi, Karmveer, Bhekrai Mata High School Winner (Girls) Bhekrai Mata High School, Eklavya, SPM School Nigadi

VIVA Workshops
A collage of 3 day workshops were conducted by experts and professionals. Workshops like VIVID ART, DECOUPAGE awakened the artist inside our participants. The participants had a great time splurging and indulging themselves in colors and creating their very own master pieces.
The ORGAMI and POTTERY work shops were a hit amongst our little ones. The joy was apparent when the children came out boasting their own little pots and three dimensional figures made by them in their respective workshops.
The workshop on ASTROLOGY inspired a sense of wonder. This mystic science and our very learned resource person kept the participants mystified through out the workshop.
VISIT TO A POST OFFICE
Students of Grade III visited a post office as an extension of their Hindi lesson ‘Dak Ghar’. They had an opportunity to interact with the post master, who explained to them the day to day affairs of the post office. He briefed them as to how the daily post is collected and then the procedure of distribution of the post. The children related their visit to their lesson thus gaining better understanding of the lesson content.
VISIT TO METEOROLOGICAL DEPARTMENT
The students of Grade I visited the Meteorological Department to get an hands on experience about how the weather is monitored by the department. The children were keen in learning the working of the department. They curiously listened to Mr. Bhaskar the senior Observatory member, who showed them various equipments like the 3 Cup Anemometer, Rain Gauge, Wind Wane, Stevenson’s Thermometer. He also explained how the weather is monitored. The children thoroughly enjoyed learning and at the same time having fun.
CULMINATING ACTIVITY GRADE IV
Parents of Grade IV were invited for the culminating activity on the 29th Nov 2011. Students of Grade IV conducted the activity based on Social Science. The theme being ‘My Nation MY Pride’. The activity began with a welcome note and a Class assembly based on various kinds of Nutrients. Students illustrated different fruit facts. It was followed by various powerful role plays like the students enacted a role play on ‘Save The Tiger’ and ‘ Pyramid Corner’. The students then went on to explain the Food chain, Food Web, Importance of Wild Life Sanctuaries and Food Pyramid with the help of Power Point Presentations. All the students performed with great enthusiasm and were much appreciated by the parents.
CULMINATING ACTIVITY GRADE III
Parents of Grade III were invited for the culminating activity on the 30th Nov 2011. Students of Grade III conducted the activity based on English Literature and Social Science. The theme for Social Science was ‘Living History In a Classroom’ and for English Literature it was ‘James and the Giant Peach’. The activity began with a welcome note followed by various powerful role plays. All the students performed with great enthusiasm and were much appreciated by the parents. The role of the narrators was commendable indeed. A fun activity called ‘The Centipede race’ was conducted for the parents which they truly enjoyed.
CULMINATING ACTIVITY GRADE II
Parents of Grade II were invited for the culminating activity on 1st Dec 2011. Students of Grade II conducted the activity based on Social Science. The theme being “ The Living World”. The activity began with a welcome note followed by ‘a slide show on ‘Family’ ‘Festivals’, Animal Homes, ‘Community helpers’, ‘Products obtained from Plants and Animals’. This was followed by a role play based on ‘Community Helpers’. The students work like the collage on clothes, greeting cards made from parts of a plant, miniature models of animal homes, charts and models on living and non- living thing were displayed and greatly appreciated by their parents. A fun activity on ‘Poster and Campaign’ was conducted for the parents based on the theme plants and animals.
CULMINATING ACTIVITY GRADE I
Parents of Grade IA were invited for the culminating activity on the 30th Nov 2011. Students of Grade IA conducted the activity based on English Literature and Social Science. The theme being “ Fun Under The Sun”. The activity began with a welcome note followed by ‘The Cat in the hat’ role play. A ‘Fashion show on Seasons’ was performed with great enthusiasm. This was followed by ‘The Wind and the Sun’ role-play. The event was culminated by summarizing the topics covered and by a PowerPoint presentation explained by the students themselves.
PROPS FOR SEASONS GRADE I
An activity to create props for different seasons was conducted for Grade 1students, to enhance the children’s knowledge about the different seasons of India and also the world. The children were divided into four groups. Each child individually made a prop in a group activity. The children were deeply engrossed in the activity and made hats for the summer season, umbrellas for the monsoon season, snowman for the winter and kites for the spring season.
CHILDREN'S DAY CELEBRATION GRADE I to IV
14th November was celebrated with much fervor and gaiety through out the school. The day began with a special assembly conducted by the teachers where significance of children’s day was emphasized. Different activities were conducted for different grades followed by yummy school snacks. The 1st and 2nd graders made magic wands and masks and wrote messages stating their dreams. Grade 3 made book marks and pencil holders. Grade IV made Plate Angels and decorated the dress of the angels with crayons, sequins, stones and sketch pens. They also played games like ‘Guess the fairy tale’ wherein they were shown a snippet of a fairy tale and they had to enact it. The air was filled with tangible excitement.
CREATIVE WRITING COMPETITION GRADE III
Creative Writing Competition gave an excellent opportunity to the students to give way to their wildest imaginations. They were given a print out of a popular story and had to give a very different ending to it of their own imagination. The students had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed writing their own creative ending to the story.
CULMINATING ACTIVITY GRADE IV
The Culminating Activity for Grade 4 provided the children an opportunities to demonstrate their creative skills and present themselves through powerful role plays in an activity based on English Literature, the theme being ‘ The Third Miracle’. The students illustrated and enacted the profiles of Matilda, Miss Honey, Miss Trunchbull, Mrs. and Mr. Wormwood the author Roald Dahl and the illustrator Quentin Blake. The students created and displayed the diary of Matilda and Miss Honey, decorated it with pictures which was highly appreciated by the parents. There was also a ‘Parents Olympics’ which gave the parents a chance to demonstrate their sporting skills. Although the tasks were simple they involved complexity in playing it. The winning parents were awarded medals as a mark of remembrance of their sporting spirits. The parents were thoroughly enjoying themselves.
DELHI AGRA TRIP GRADE V
The 5th Graders went on an educational trip to Delhi and Agra. The trip had a historical inclination which enabled the children to enhance their knowledge on Indian’s ancient history and its rich and varied culture. They saw the Amer Fort, the magnificent Taj Mahal, India Gate, Rashtrapati Bhavan to name a few. The importance of these monuments and the need to preserve them was emphasised. Another exciting part of this trip was the adventurous trip to Ranthambore, where they visited the Tiger sanctuary. The children were thrilled to see many wild animals in their natural surroundings. The importance of national parks and wild life sanctuaries as being safe havens to the flora and fauna was explained. In addition to all the fun, the children developed a strong bond with their peers. They learnt to take responsibilities independently.
POETRY WRITING COMPETITION GRADE V
Poetry Writing Competition was a fantastic medium for the students to express their vivid imaginations. Their flare in the English language was evident through their usage of the figure of speech in their poems. The poems were truly creative and interesting.
CREATIVE WRITING COMPETITION GRADE IV
Creative Story Writing Competition was a fantastic medium for the students to express their vivid imaginations. The students of Grade IV were asked to write a story, the beginning of which was already given. Taking an inkling from the given beginning of the story the children ingeniously completed the story. The stories were truly creative and interesting.
FISH TANK GRADE I
With an aim to give hands on experience to help children to understand the process of digestion, an activity showing the movement of food through the intestine was conducted in the Grade IV. Models of the digestive organs were made using materials like plastic bags, flexible rubber tubes etc. Coloring substances similar to the digestive juices were used to enhance the activity for better understanding. The children understood the process by actually visualising the process.
FISH TANK
Grade I students participated in a group activity of making a fish tank. The class was divided into 4 groups. The students used simple materials like a shoe box, cut outs of fish, blue glitter paper to give the water effect. The children found the activity interesting and were thoroughly engrossed in it from coloring the fish tank to later discussing as to how to make the fish tank look more realistic. They used cut outs of grass, sand and pebbles to decorate their fish tanks.
DIWALI CELEBRATION
Diwali was celebrated with great enthusiasm in our school. The Primary children made beautiful cards and decorated their classes. They also enjoyed decorating earthen Diyas and exchanged pleasantries, sweets and gifts with each other. They understood the significance of’ sharing’ during this festival.They were explained to have a safe and pollution free Diwali.
PAPER MACHE EGGS
The activity of making paper mache eggs was conducted with the objective to make children aware of birds, insects and animals that lay eggs. They enjoyed making the models and at the same time learnt a lot about the egg laying animals.. It was an experience mingled with fun and learning. The activity was completed by putting in pictures of animals, birds and insects.
SUPER SANDWICH
To develop interest amongst students in the culinary art Grade IV made the super sandwiches. This activity enabled students to make sandwiches on their own. The students made vegetable sandwiches using butter, vegetables and cheese. They added ingredients of their choice to enhance the taste. They also discussed the nutritive value [calorie] of the sandwich.
VISIT TO OLD AGE HOME
The students of grade II visited an Old Age Home. The aim was to sensitize the students towards the senior citizens and their needs. The students understood the contribution of our senior citizens in shaping the society. The students were encouraged to empathize with the old people. They also had the opportunity to interview them and gain more understanding about their lives.
FANCY DRESS GRADE V
The students of Grade V came dressed as their favourite character chosen from their text “A Magic place”. They enacted their character with immense zeal and creativity. Children enjoyed observing and learning from the performances of their classmates.
FANCY DRESS GRADE IV
The students of Grade IV came dressed as their favourite character from their Literature Book “Matilda”. They performed their character with enthusiasm ,enjoying every moment it. Children enjoyed observing and learning from the performances of their classmates.
FANCY DRESS GRADE III
The students of Grade III came dressed as their favourite character from the story “James and the Giant Peach”. They artistically presented their character keeping in mind every detail of the character of the story. Their costumes were attractively colourful and worth a lot of praise. The students had a great time observing their classmates performing.
FANCY DRESS GRADE II
Students of Grade II enjoyed dressed as their favourite Fairy Tale character. It was a joyous experience for them to enact as their favourite character. Children dressed up very creatively and presented their character enthusiastically. They enjoyed observing their peers perform their favourite fairy tales..
FANCY DRESS GRADE I
Students of Grade I were dressed as their favourite Nursery Rhyme character. They depicted their their favourite character with full fervor . They enjoyed themselves thoroughly, being dressed up differently.
3D MODEL MAKING
The activity of making a ‘3-D Models’ of animals living on land and water was conducted with the objective to help children understand and distinguish between the various types animals. They enjoyed making the models. It was an experience mingled with fun and learning.
OUR YOUNG SCHOLARS
61 enthusiastic students from different categories demonstrated their deftness over the English language by participating in our first ever ‘MaRRs International spelling Bee Competition’. 11 students qualified for the ‘Winners Certificate’ and a whooping 26 students for the ‘Commendation Certificate’. Altogether 37 students will appear for the next level. Vibgyor High lauds their achievement and wishes them luck for the next level. A pat on the back for all their spirited performance.

ACTIVITIES FROM 28th August - 9th September
Collage on Animals, Birds and Insects Students of Grade IA & B enjoyed displaying their creative skills by making a Collage on various animals, birds, insects with the educational objective to make children aware of different variety of creatures such as wild animals, pet animals ,domestic animals , birds and insects. The children participated with enthusiasm and enjoyed the activity.
Visit A Zoo The trip was organized with an aim to introduce students to different types of wild animals at the Katraj zoo. The objective was to get an understanding of different characteristics and behaviour of various animals. They saw endangered , rare species of different types of snakes, tigers etc and understood the significance of protecting animals.
Transport Museum A “Transport Museum” was set up in grade 5. The students were divided into 4 groups i.e. Roadways, Railways, Airways and Waterways. Each group arranged their models in their respective corner .One member from each group presented two advantages and limitations of their mode of transport .The presentation by students made it evident that the students had understood the topic.
Making a Bird Nest Bird nest making activity was conducted with an aim to provide opportunities to students of Grade IA&B, to demonstrate their creative skills by making bird nests out of waste materials and natural things. The activity was further carried out by an interactive session on houses of animals.
Culminating Activity The Culminating Activity of grade 5 was held with an aim to provide the children an opportunities to demonstrate their creative skills and present themselves through powerful role plays in an activity called ‘Quest – Search for knowledge’. The students displayed their projects which was well appreciated by the parents.
Pet Day The day was organized with an aim to introduce students to different pets to help them recognize and identify different pets. The pets were brought to the class and students were asked questions to identify the pet, What it eats etc. the students regaled everyone with funny anecdotes of their of their pets.
Trip to Lonavala Students of Grade 3,4 and 5 accompanied by their teachers went for an overnight trip to Lonavala. It was a fun filled learning experience as the students were exposed to a variety of activities like Art & Craft ,Drama, Rifle shooting. They visited the wax museum, Valvan dam and other breath taking sights. They immensely enjoyed the delicious food and the camp fire.
ACTIVITIES FROM 5th - 16th August
Culminating Activity The culminating activity was conducted on 5th August’11 where students showcased their understanding of lessons done in English Literature and Social Science .It was done through various power point presentations and the learning of ‘sense organs” was done through an interactive session, followed by a presentation of “Birthday celebration” of the story character “Amelia Bedelia”. This was was immensely enjoyed by all the parents.
Culminating Activity Grade 4 conducted their culminating activity on the 9th of August’11.The students were excited to dress up as their” favourite achiever’. They spoke about them very passionately which made an lasting impression on parents. The students explained the power point presentations which was highly appreciated by the parents. The icing on the cake was the “Quiz” for parents.

The students displayed immense confidence and dynamism while showcasing their talents at role play..The parents were overwhelmed to see their children learning in a very interactive way .All the concepts learnt during phase 1 were beautifully communicated , thus meeting with the educational objectives..
Visit To Transport Museum/D-Mart Grade 5 students went for a field trip to Transport museum as a reinforcement of their Social studies topic. It was very informative and interesting where the students learnt about the various modes of communication and the functions of the departments .while students of Grade IA& IB went for a visit to D Mart as a part of their learning to understand, identify and categorise vegetables and fruits.
 
Independence Day With patriotic flavour in the air ,the Independence Day was commemorated on 15th August. The Principal Ms Renuka Dutta unfurled the Indian tricolour followed by a proud rendition of the National Anthem. The school student council President administered the National Pledge, reminding everyone of their dedication and devotion to the nation and to each other. In her welcome speech the Principal Ms Renuka Dutta spoke about the great sacrifice of our freedom fighters, whose undying love for India secured us our freedom. A ballet on “Unity in Diversity” was beautifully presented by grade V students. The programme was attended by parents of grade V students who shared their views and stressed on national integrity and self discipline
ACTIVITIES FROM 22th - 29th July
VISIT TO A BOTANICAL GARDEN The field trip was organised at a botanical garden to learn about the flora and fauna as a part of their science subject. The students got a first hand experience and studied the different parts of the plant body. They also learnt about the different forms of plant body. The students learnt about soil , germination . They actively participated in collecting different types of flowers and leaves. They wer taught to preserve the leaves and flowers.
VISIT TO PLANETERIUM Grade III students made a visit to the Planetarium to gain an extended information of the Universe . They learnt about the Solar system, milky galaxy. The students could understand the significance of Sun, Moon and identify how the natural phenomenon occurs , thus meeting with the educational objectives.
OUR WORLD AND BEYOND The culminating activity for social science based on the theme OUR WORLD AND BEYOND was presented in a richly organized conceptual network of skills by the students of Grade III. A plethora of activities was presented to the parents wherein a Presentation on ‘Our Universe ‘ was given by the students . A role play and a fashion show on Planets was conducted and highly appreciated by parents. The students could assimilate facts and knowledge and explore the concepts and ideas taught in classroom and use it in their culminating activity.

Field Trip To The Post Office
The Students went to the Post Office in Pune University as a part of their learning about Community Helpers in Social science. The children were very inquisitive and were happy to learn about the old method of communication. They also dropped a letter to their parents after pasting the stamp.The students realized the importance of old buildings in the community.

Visit to a Blind Training centre in Kothrud
The Students went to the Blind Training centre in Kothrud. It was a green and beautiful premises where children were happy and appreciated the nature. They were sensitized and made aware of the importance of every body part. They learnt that inspite of being deprived of their eyes , the Blind were able to live life like every other normal person.
Children also visited the small scale manufacturing units of candle making and crafts and were really inspired to see all of them working with dignity and lot of dedication
Craft Competition
The Inter house competition was conducted for the Primary grades where the children displayed immense creativity in their craft skills. All children made the best use of the waste products at home and designed various utility based items. They created pencil holders, photo frames, wind chimes, paper robots etc. The activity was enjoyed by all and winners were declared from every grade and points were allotted to their respective house
