 CULMINATING ACTIVITY GRADE VI

A culminating activity was conducted for the students of grade vi on 14th march 2012.The theme was “pinnacle”.The students presented a skit, poetry and  power point presentations on various subjects. Posters and  charts were displayed on different themes.

The display rooms were attractively set up to showcase the students’ work during the term. Parents showed keen interest and enthusiatically perused the display areas. They enquired from the students about the display and were happy and satisfied with the response. Positive feedback was received from them and they expressed  their acceptance tothe methods through which learning was imparted to their children through the entire programme.

Nehru Science Centre is the largest Science Centre in the country. It has different galleries that help children to understand different scientific phenomenon.
                  
The students visited various galleries  like sound  and hearing ,light and sight, Evolution and Pre-Historic times etc. The gallery ‘sound and hearing’ helped children to understand how our ear perceives a range of varied frequencies. Such field trips help the students to practically understand a concept easily and also to learn the various scientific principles.

 Moreover there were interesting facts and a fun way of learning the different scientific ideas that really hit the children’s curiosity and enthusiasm to know more about the particular  topic.

Interhouse Pictionary Competition of Grade IV

Vibgyor High (Malad East) had a Pictionary Competition for the students of Grade IV on 15th and 16th March, 2012. It developed children’s thought process as they came up with different innovative ideas to express themselves.
                An elimination round was conducted on 15th March, 2012 and the Final Round was conducted between the best four houses on 16th March, 2012. Children participated enthusiastically and displayed their talent by drawing various pictures of different kind. Many children were very quick in guessing the word and they enjoyed it thoroughly. Children at such a tender age had brilliant ideas to put across their thoughts and communicate without the help of language.
              
The children had great fun and the Team spirit was reflected as they were collaboratively working and sharing thoughts and ideas.

Inter House Competition “Conservation of Water”
Grade- VI

As population increases, water, our limited natural resource is used to a great extent. It is important that we use water wisely and not waste it. To instill this awareness in children, an Inter-house competition on ‘Conservation of Water’ was held on Friday, 24th February 2012 for the Students of Grade VI.
It was a group competition, where the students prepared a Power Point Presentation depicting the importance of water. The information was brought by the students from home and was collated in school.
With zest and enthusiasm the students worked as a team and presented their best.

Inter house Group Competition- Grade-2

Competitions  help in developing the multi-tasking skills in  students. An inter house group competition on the topic ‘Senses’ was organized for the students of Grade-2 on 24th February 2012. Myriad  thoughts and ideas found  the right frame into the centre of a purpose-laden activity  through projects, collages and scrap book .It was amazing to see the children working in a team to present their work.

Inter house Group Competition- Grade-1

 Today’s children are the most precious resource for a better tomorrow. Hence it is absolutely imperative to nurture while we inspire them with challenging activities.

An inter house group competition on the topic- Insects/ Creepy Crawlies- was organized for the students of Grade-1on 24th February 2012. Students made projects, scrapbook and booklets based on the topic. The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from the students in groups. It was  not only an opportunity to showcase and develop their creative streak but also a chance to display some of their beautiful thoughts. The students confidently explained the projects put by them. The judges were left spellbound by the imagination and creativity of the students.

 Overnight Pune Trip Grade III and IV

The students of Grade III and IV were taken for a fun-filled educational overnight trip to Pune on 26th and 27th February, 2012.Pune is one of the historical cities of India with a glorious past, an innovative present and a promising future.

The highlights of the trip were visiting the SOS village (a unique village that provides a strong support system to the orphaned children), the reptile park, the Aga Khan palace, adventure games, treasure hunt. The students enjoyed visiting the famous snake & reptile park which enriched their knowledge of the creeping creatures. The students were emotional to see how the orphan children were taken care at the SOS village. The various games and treasure hunt helped the children to inculcate the value of team spirit.

The magic show arranged by the resort mesmerized the students. Indeed such overnight trips help children to be independent, disciplined and also build up a bond with their teachers.

Inter House Poster Making Competition- Grage III

National symbols of a Country reflect its culture and beliefs. We will soon be celebrating our Republic day on the 26thJanuary. Keeping this in mind, an Inter house poster making competition ( display on National symbols) was held on 13th January, 2012. Students had to work together in a group and create a display depicting various National symbols of India. Students formed their groups and made artistic posters using pictures and illustration. The Tri colour flag, the State Emblem, the Ashoka Pillar, our National bird/animal, our National songs etc were proudly displayed by the Children. One representative from every group explained about their display . The Students understood that our National flag, National anthem and all our National symbols are an integral part of our collective heritage.

Republic Day

26th January,1952 , the Constitution was formed which is celebrated as India’s Republic Day. Our dear children celebrated this day with lots of patriotism in their heart on 25th January,2012 by dressing up in Tri Color clothes. A brief information about the day was given to them and they danced to a patriotic song and sang The National Anthem. Playschool did activities related to the day by making tri color badge . Nursery children made tri color fans.

Interhouse Collage making Competition Grade IV

Mahatma Gandhi rightly said “ Earth provides enough to satisfy every Man’s need , but not Every Man’s Greed”. The Students of Grade IV at Vibgyor High,Malad (E) had a Collage making competition held on 13thJanauray,2012. The topic given to them was ‘SAVING ANIMALS’ to create an awareness among them regarding the need to save animals from extinction. The Children made collage that depicted the causes and effects of Animal Endangerment. Children beautifully expressed their perceptions and concerns about the theme through colours, pictures and interesting slogans. Plants and Animal Species are the foundation of healthy Ecosystem. Hence, through such competitions we can help the future generation to value and preserve our Ecosystem.

Field Trip to Bisleri Factory Grade IV

On 20th January 2012, the Students of Grade IV from Vibgyor High Malad (East) had been on an educational field trip to Bisleri factory at Andheri ( East) in Mumbai. This trip was an extension to the Social Science Unit- States of Matter wherein the students learnt about water purification. The trip was an eye-opener as the students were enthralled to see how water went through a 7 stage purification process ahead of being bottled for commercial retailing. Children also learnt about conservation of water through a power point presentation. The Children returned from the field trip very motivated and wiser by resolving to conserve water . Such field trips morph the students into better citizens of tomorrow and instill social values with sense of justice to the society and environment.

FIELD TRIP TO THE POST OFFICE GRADE III

Field trips are an excellent way to foster higher level thinking and help children to focus and learn how things work. As an extension to the Hindi lesson ‘Daak Ghar’ the Children of Grade III were taken to the nearby Post Office on 12th January, 2012. The Students got an insight of the different postal services such as money orders, transmission or delivery of letters, parcels, how mails are sorted or processed for delivery. The Students realized the importance of the Post Man as a community helper. The field trip also enriched the children as we made them understand the concept of 1 km which is a part of the Math unit ‘Measurement’. This trip enabled the students of Grade III to enhance their knowledge better in both these topics.

REPORT ON INTER-HOUSE COMPETITION OF GRADE V WASTE MANAGEMENT

Awareness of various means to reduce wastes and the costs associated with waste disposal is very important for all of us to save our environment. This knowledge will help us to develop a positive attitude towards littering and help us to develop solutions to reduce such littering. An Inter- house Poster making competition was held on 21st November, 2011 for the students of Grade 5. The topic given for the competition was” Waste Management”. It was an individual competition where students enthusiastically participated. They understood the importance of the three R’s - Reduce, Recycle and Reuse and portrayed it beautifully on colourful papers. After the preparation of their respective posters the students presented them in front of the class.

INTER-HOUSE POSTER MAKING COMPETITION OF GRADE VI ON “SAVE ELECTRICITY”

An inter- house poster making competition was held on 21st November 2011 for the students of Grade 6. The theme of the competition was” Save Electricity”. We all are aware that energy saved is energy gained for another day. This understanding that electricity is one of the non-renewable sources of energy and needs to be saved was instilled in the minds of the children through this poster making competition. It was an individual competition where students enthusiastically participated. They portrayed their understanding & ideas about energy saving on colourful papers. After preparing their respective posters the students presented them in front of the class.

Poster making Competition Grade IV

On 23rd November, 2011the Students of Grade IV had participated in Poster making Competition Topic being Global Warming. The Students also wrote Slogans thus creating awareness of the problem and the contribution of our daily life style and activities to this phenomenon. The Competition really ignited young minds and the Students created posters which gave message of saving Mother Earth from CFC, Plastic and Pollution. Such Competitions not only help Students to show their ideas and creativity but also help them to become better citizens of this World.

POSTER MAKING COMPETITION GRADE III

The Students of Grade III had participated in Poster making Competition on 23rdNovember, 2011 the Topic being Pollution. The Students actively participated in the same with zest and enthusiasm. They highlighted the different types of Pollution and shared their ideas to minimize the same. Posters emphasized on how we should keep cleanliness in our surroundings, use biogas avoid bursting crackers to reduce sound pollution, use cycles often to save fuel etc. The Students added their simple tips to reduce pollution and this was not mere a Competition but also an awareness drive for all to save our planet Earth by going green.

Culminating Activity of Grade IV

On 28th October,2011 Grade IV had its third Culmination event of Social Science. Our zealous learners gave a spellbinding performance. The curtain raiser started with the children presenting a small enactment on “Save the Forest and Wildlife” coupled with another act on “Balanced Diet”. A melodious background choir on ‘Heal the World’ was very enchanting. A poster making activity was organized for the Parents on the topic “We care about healthy food’’ and “We care about Natural Resources" This encouraged the Parents and also brought awareness among them . The program concluded with myriad display items and soliciting Parents feedback.

One Nation Reading Programme

The great philosopher Jeremy Collier stated that “A man may as well expect to grow stronger by always eating as wiser by always reading.” With a similar philosophy in mind, Scholastic organized a ‘ONE NATION READING’ programme on 25th November 2011, where the whole of India was reading from 12:00 to 12:30 pm. Vibgyor High (Malad East) was also a part of this programme where Grade 1 students actively participated and enjoyed reading their favourite books in the library. The students were highly excited to participate and read with their fellow participants all over the country. During the programme the importance of reading books and how books are our best friends was impressed upon the children.

Children’s Day Celebration

As a tribute to Chacha Nehru and his love for Children, Children’s day is celebrated on his birthdate. At Vibgyor High, Malad (E) We celebrated ‘Childhood’ with gaiety and fervour. The theme for the day was – FAIRYTALE FANTASIA. The teacher narrated some familiar fairy tales which gave the message that everyone should always cherish and pursue their dreams. The Activities, Games, Mural (Wall of Dreams), Dance and delicious snacks filled the day with enjoyment. They expressed their dreams and penned it on the Wall of Dreams. The décor made up of fairies, clouds, stars etc. added glitter to the day. The celebrations brightened up their angelic eyes and innocent smiles.

Culminating Activity of Grade IV

Our zealous learners of Grade IV were glued to the imaginative journey of ‘Matilda’. Now it was time to showcase their talent to the Parents.
Hence on 13thOctober,2011 the Parents were invited to enjoy the precocious accomplishments of Matilda through the enactment of few scenes. The Parents were mesmerized to see their children as actors of the illustrious book. Also, the Parents enthusiastically participated  in the Parent Olympics.
They thoroughly enjoyed the marvellous  pranks of Matilda and appreciated the learners for the lovely show.

Overnight trip to Manor Grade III and Grade IV

At Vibgyor we believe in the overall development of the children. Students learn independence through overnight adventures. The students of Grade III and IV were taken for a fun-filled overnight trip to Manor on 30thSeptember and 1stOctober 2011.
The students were all zealous and excited to live between the valley of greenery, surrounded by majestic hills with their friends and loving teachers. Children enjoyed playing the adventure games, the water kingdom, learning basic first aid and living amidst the nature’s paradise.
The trip helped students to develop confidence, togetherness and independence. Also, nothing can replace the community building power of seeing each other outside the normal setting. Hence, the trip also helped the students to bond with their peers and their teachers.

Inter house Creative Writing Competition- Grade III

At Vibgyor high we nurture and foster creativity in children. To express the imagination,CreativeWriting Competition, ‘Twist a tale’ was held on 13th October, 2011.
The students were provided with a well-known story. They had to write a different end to the story. It was a pleasure to see our budding writers engrossed in expressing themselves.
The students created beautiful endings to the story there by proving that imagination is one of the most amazing gifts of childhood.

Inter house Creative Writing Competition- Grade IV

Writing is  a form of personal  freedom.  This freedom was given  to the students of Vibgyor high Grade IV via Creative Writing Competition called  ‘Spin the Yarn’ held on 14th October,2011.
The students were given the  introductory lines of a story and had to use their imaginative powers and complete the story with a suitable ending. The students participated with great enthusiasm by developing charismatic characters, powerful plots, sensational settings and thoughtful themes .
This challenging activity was enjoyed by the young writers.

Visit to Nehru Planetarium

Field Trips form an integral part of the teaching – learning process. It supplements  the curriculum through interaction with the outside world.
A day with celestial objects, stars and galaxies brought smiles to the students of Grade-1, who visited the Nehru Planetarium on 7th October 2011. Students were given detailed information that encompassed facts on the evolution of stars, formation of various constellations and a small segment on planets was also showcased. The trip was immensely enjoyed by the students.
The trip was educationally stimulating and an attempt to enhance students understanding of the topic.

Report on Grade V Inter-house Competition "Act it Out"

Acting helps to build one’s confidence and self esteem. It encourages children to read, learn their lines and thereby helps to build their memory too. On 3rd October, the students of Grade V participated in an Inter-house Competition titled “Act It Out”. They portrayed a character from their English reader, “A Magic Place”. They dressed and enacted the role of the character they had chosen. All of them acted it out with a lot of confidence and it helped them in overcoming stage fear.
The three finalists from both the sections of grade V, competed in the last round and the winners were selected from amongst them. Children participated with enthusiasm and showed their keen interest for the competition.

Report on Grade VI Inter-house Competition "Act it Out"

The Students of Grade VI participated in an Inter-house competition ‘Act It Out’ ‘on Monday 3rd October, 2011. Acting helps to build one’s confidence and self esteem. It encourages children to read, learn their lines and thereby helps to build their memory too.
This was a group competition where the students had to dramatize a lesson of their choice from their English reader ‘A Magic Place’. Each group presented the lesson in their own unique way. They were well attired in appropriate costumes and used props creatively and effectively to enhance their performances.

Inter House performing Arts Competition - Grade 4

An Inter house competition was held on 23rd September for Grade 4 based on their course book “Matilda”. Pupils were challenged to understand and enact the characters from Matilda.

The students participated enthusiastically and dressed up like their most favorite characters - Matilda and Miss Honey...the holy terror Miss Trunchbull...their cute friends like...Nigel and Eric...Each and every child was consciously involved in their character and their performance was stellar.

The competition provided an opportunity to the students to display some latent talent while having fun. This enabled the students to better comprehend the text and link it with practical learning.

Inter House performing Arts Competition - Grade 3

At Vibgyor High the reason for success is the focus on skills and links concepts gained throughout the curriculum via the dramatization of material learnt. On 23rd  September, 2011 students of Grade 3 participated in a Performing Arts Competition.

The students dressed like their favorite character from the literature reader “James and the Giant Peach”. The competition allowed children to be creative as well as have fun dressing up in colorful costumes.

Students exhibited a spellbinding performance by enacting  the various characters of this illustrious book.

Field Trip to Sanjay Gandhi National Park Grade-IV

On 9th September, 2011 the students of Grade IV (ICSE) visited Sanjay Gandhi National Park as an extension to their ongoing unit in Social Studies, ‘Forest and Wildlife’.
The curious learners were very excited and thrilled to experience wildlife in their natural habitat. The Jungle Safari was an unforgettable experience. The learners were elated to see the White Tiger and the Yellow Tiger with their cubs, lions, monkeys etc. The children were enlightened to the fact that the dense forest was home to several species; hence, conservation of forests is important.
Sanjay Gandhi National Park provided an extensive variety of flora and fauna for our little ones to have a jungle safari adventure tour. Thus, it was an enriching experience.

INTER HOUSE POSTER COMPETITION REPORT

An inter- house poster competition was held on 11th August 2011 for Grade 6. The theme of the competition was “UNITY IN DIVERSITY”.The students were divided into house wise groups where each group prepared beautiful & self explanatory posters. Students enthusiastically participated in the competition portraying their understanding & ideas about unity in diversity in India onto colourful papers. The groups after preparing their respective posters were presented in front of the class.

INTER HOUSE COMPETITION GRADE-2

On 14th August, Patriotic Song Competition was organized for children of Grade 2 to inculcate the feelings of love and loyalty towards our country. The children presented beautiful and poignant patriotic songs. The whole performance was very soothing and  harmonious.

This competition also helped the children to imbibe the value - “A patriot is someone who loves, supports and is prepared to serve his country unconditionally”.

An Inter-house Art Competition was held on the topic Independence Day for Grade 1 students on 10thAugust 2011.This helped to hone the creative skills of the students and also ensured that our cultural heritage is kept alive in their little minds. Students created beautiful art work using Tricolour of the flag.

This competition provided an opportunity to develop the artistic skills of the children. It was a wonderful sight to see the children engrossed in the activity and expressing themselves through colours.

SCIENCE FIELD TRIP REPORT

A field trip for science was planned on 12th Aug 2011 to Nehru Science Centre to provide students with a hands-on experience about various machines. This was based on the chapter ‘Simple machine’. The students were made aware about the types of simple machine found in various complex machines present there. They were also shown various other things based on biology about body systems. Various educational games, quizzes were available for the students to get hands on & understand the working of it clearly Students were made to play the various games on muscular power, listening to sound, heart beat, brain functioning to control our body & many more games with guidance from the teachers.

It was a very informative trip where students were able to directly experience the functions of body system as well as various scientists with their inventions.

PRESERVATION OF PUBLIC PROPERTY

Historic preservation safeguards a community's heritage, making it available to future generations for civic enjoyment and   educational activities. As a part of History curriculum students of grade 6 visited Shri. BhauDaji Lad Museum on 12th August 2011. This museum houses a large number of archaeological finds, maps and historical photographs of Mumbai,clay models, silver and copper ware and costumes.

Students observed its spectacular beauty and unique architecture; the collection which included the talent of early modern   artists and craftsmen. The visit was an enriching experience for the students which helped them to understand the importance of restoration, preservation and maintenance of public property.

A video on the different ways adopted for the preservation and maintenance of the collection was shown to them. It highlighted the uniqueness attached to the methods used for the revival, conservation and upkeep of the artifacts was shown to them.

VIBGYOR HIGH POWER VALUES WORKSHOP

Primary and secondary coordinator's conducted “Power Of Values” workshop at VIBGYOR HIGH  on Saturday 13th August 2011. One purpose of this workshop was to give teachers an opportunity to identify and affirm values and principles that they hold in common as member of our community. A second purpose was to give participants an opportunity to learn about , observe and practice a process of “ Value based decision making.”

The presentation was initiated by Mrs. Sarita Gomes and carried by Mrs. Priya Natraj & Prachee Desai .Then groups were formed and various activities such as skit, song, demonstrations were presented by the teachers boned upon key power values.

The workshop was ended with an opportunity for teachers to inculcate these power values in their as well as pupils life

FANCY DRESS COMPETITION

A fancy dress competition was organized in our school,  VIBGYOR HIGH Malad (E) on Monday, 8th Aug 2011 in which students of grade 5A & 5B had participated with great enthusiasm. The theme of the fancy dress competition was “UNITY IN DIVERSITY” in which participants dressed themselves up in different attire to represent the various cultures of our country, i.e. in Bengali ,Christian, South Indian, Marwadi, Punjabi, Maharashtrian traditions. Participants also gave brief information about the states and the culture they were representing in their respective languages.

To judge the competition,Primary sections co- coordinator Mrs.  Priya Natraj & Mrs. Prachee Desai  were invited to grace the occasion The competition provided an opportunity to test the imagination and creative skills of the children.

INTER HOUSE SPEECH COMPETITION -GRADE III


On 10th August our little patriots of Grade III had participated with full zeal and enthusiasm for the elocution competition, the topic being “What Freedom Means to Me.”

Freedom is a very relative term. Freedom means the state of being permitted to do what one wants to do. And they did exactly the same. Giving wings to their thoughts they flew high in keeping with the true meaning of freedom. Bearing in mind the vibrant colors of our flag, the children added a lot of color to their speech as well. The speech delivered by the children reflected their genuineness and naturalness.

Vibgyor High gives room to children to grow and express themselves.The youngsters were free and spontaneous in their expression. The students gave a spellbinding and enthralling performance.

INTER HOUSE SINGING COMPETITION -GRADE IV


As we were nearing the 64th year of Independence, a regional /folk song singing competition was organized on 9th August, 2011 to instill the feeling of patriotism in young minds.

It was a group competition where the students displayed amazing talents. Songs were sung in various languages by various groups representing the diverse culture of India. This not only encouraged linguistic development but also helped the students to get together and develop team spirit.

Such competitions are socially meaningful because it helps the little minds to reorganize their identities and places to which they belong.  The students put up a wonderful performance. The group which won the competition performed once again on Independence Day.

CULMINATING ACTIVITY OF GRADE 4


On 12th July 2011 Grade IV had its first Social Science culmination event. The event metamorphosed student’s talent into contemporary issues plaguing the nation and Mankind.

The young students were amazingly engaged, energetic and happy to participate. They took pride in presenting the achievers, different soils, cities of India through a role play. The Parents thoroughly enjoyed participating in the quiz hosted by their young quiz masters. The students also displayed Power Point Presentation and exhibited their knowledge about the things they had learnt through the unit.

“India” being the theme and keeping the spirits of Independence in mind the event ended with a presentation of meaningful messages on the placards. The vibrant colors of the flag were also reflected at the closure. The Culminating activity had not only enlightened the student’s knowledge but also helped them to appreciate their Motherland “Incredible India”.

Task Management

A solid personal Task Management system is the key to effective time management and life planning. To give an insight into this, a module on task management was  conducted on6thAugust2011,bythepreprimary coordinator. The workshop began with an icebreaking game followed by a group discussion on different strategies of task management. Various topics like: ways of task management, classroom management, the five p’s of classroom management, was explained through a power point presentation. To make the session interesting different activities were also conducted. Over all it was an interesting and fruitful session for the teachers.

Culminating Activity for Grade 1

Culminating activity provides an opportunity for all students to articulate the knowledge they have gained and to share the same with others. The first Culminating Activity for the Grade-1 students was held on 3rd August 2011. The activity was a beautiful blend of Literature and Social Science units. It was a well balanced repertoire of skit, poem, table displays and game for the parents. The activity provided good exposure for the children to develop their self confidence. The performances of the children were enjoyed with great ebullience by the parents.

Culminating Activity is a part of our school curriculum and imparts a scope to the students to develop various aspects of their personality and help them to march forward with confidence. As an extension of Social Science and Literature units, the students of Grade-2 presented their first Culminating Activity on Friday 5th August 2011. The array of events comprised of enchanting skit, Informative, displays and  knowledgeable power point presentation. The parents had a fabulous time making posters related to safety. This event helped to develop confidence in the students for speaking abilities as well as improve presentation and oratory skills.The activity was an exhilarating experience full of fun and learning for both parents and children.

The students of Grade 3 of VIBGYOR HIGH enthusiastically participated in the Hindi Language skill competition held on 28thJuly 2011.
Hindi being our national language contributes in bringing about unity and a feeling of oneness among the Indian citizens.. Hence to inculcate their linguistic skills a Hindi story telling competition was organized. The students were judged on the basis of pronunciation, voice modulation and content. Every student participated in the competition displaying best of their talents.
The students were exuberant and performed to the best of their potential. This proved that inspite of the popularity of English language, Hindi still continues to be the essence of India’s culture and heritage.

Science Field Trip To Sanjay Gandhi National Park
A field trip for science was planned on 21st July’11 to Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Borivali to provide students with a hands-on experience about trees, herbs and shrubs. This was based on the chapter ‘Life on Earth’. The students were made aware that Sanjay Gandhi National Park basically has maximum deciduous tress and few semi-evergreen trees. Students were taught to identify the Ashoka tree; one of the most abundantly found evergreen trees. They were also shown fish tail palm, few xerophytes, herbs, shrubs and a beautiful example of symbiotic association between banyan and coconut tree. Students were made to play games where they had to go and stand beside a particular tree, herb or shrub as guided by the teacher. It was a very informative trip where students were able to directly experience the beauty of nature in all its glory.

Inter house Hindi Recitation Competition Grade2
Reading through books is not the only medium of learning but fun filled activities and competitions enhance the learning process.  Keeping this in mind, a Hindi Recitation competition was organized for the Grade-2 children on Wednesday 20th July ,2011. The children brought forward the beauty of expressions, thoughts, feelings, rhymes, rhythms and music of words through their poems. They also got an opportunity to exhibit their talent and confidence .The children recited the poems with a lot of zeal and enthusiasm .Certain poems that were recited, managed to create images in the minds. The competition helped to develop and improve healthy, competitive spirit.

Competitions are an essential part of School Curriculum. To encourage competitive values and spirit in children an Inter-house Hindi Recitation Competition was organized for Grade 1 children on Thursday, 21st  July 2011. The children had taken a lot of effort to prepare themselves for this competition. Each child recited the poem with expressions and voice modulation. It was a platform to develop confidence, improve vocabulary and also help the students to get rid of stage fear.   It was a very enriching experience for the spectators and an enjoyable moment for the participants.

Field Trip to Nehru Planetarium Grade III

On 7th July 2011 the Students of Grade III(ICSE) visited Nehru Planetarium as an extension to their ongoing unit in Social Science. This was their first field trip for the academic year 2011- 2012.
The learners were all curious to learn about the magnificent solar system. The students were first briefed about various planets, satellites, stars etc.Then the students observed the Orrery composed of various Planets, Sun and Moon. They were delighted to weigh themselves on various planets. The theatre sky watch mesmerized the students thereby encouraging them to appreciate the science and beauty of the night sky.     
A day with celestial objects, stars and galaxies quenched their thirst of gaining knowledge about the vast universe. It was an enriching learning experience.

Field Trip to a Botanical Garden

The students of VIBGYOR HIGH, Malad (E) Grade IV visited the Botanical Garden at Bhavans College, Andheri (W) as an extension to their ongoing lessons in Social Science. This was their first field trip for the academic year 2011-12.The students displayed a great deal of enthusiasm for the trip. The Botanical Garden was a sight to behold. The students explored the variety of plants: Indoor plants, Aquatic plants, Cactus and Medicinal herbs and were fascinated by the sight of small lake, lotus, frogs and tadpoles. They also studied various types of soils and few cash crops such as sugarcane, cotton and black pepper. The students gained a hands-on experience and thus felt in harmony with nature.

Designer Paper Weight Competition

With a firm belief that each child possess an inherent talent which needs to be honed and nurtured, an inter house competition on Designing paper weights was held on 27th June, 2011 for the children of Grade -1. The competition was primarily based on making the best out of waste. Children brought paint, glue, buttons, ribbons, ice-cream sticks, wool, cloth, clay and other waste material and a bit of sequins and sparkle to decorate their paper weights. They employed their talents to create their own piece of art. The children designed unique, beautiful and attractive paper weights. The creativity and talent of the children was evident from their work. Our judges found it difficult to choose the winners as each selected piece of art was beautiful in its own way. The competition provided an opportunity to test the imagination and creative skills of the children.

ACTIVITIES FROM 2ND JULY - 9TH JULY

At VIBGYOR HIGH, learners are encouraged to think creatively. We began our first journey of creativity by arranging an Art and Craft inter house competition ‘Designer photo frames’ on 28th June, 2011. The students were encouraged to use eco friendly things to create sensitivity towards conservation of resources. The students participated with zeal and enthusiasm, thus adding soul to the competition .The young artists used cardboard, scrap wood, buttons, ribbons, clay and other waste material to produce beautiful designer frames. Tiny hands worked towards shaping up a raw material into a baggage of memories which could be preserved and loved by all. Thus, the inter house competition motivated the learners to express their ideas effectively.

To strengthen teachers’ knowledge and expertise on how to address the diverse learning needs of the students, a workshop was conducted for teachers on 2nd July 2011. The purpose of this workshop was to provide information on diversity and its implications. Emphasis was laid on identifying the areas of bias within their own classroom and school, creating a plan for eliminating bias and developing a positive climate for learning. The workshop was presented in a well laid out manner and was made very interactive for the teachers through an informative PPT and role plays. It provided an understanding and application of the principles and strategies needed to set up a classroom that provides success and challenge for diverse students.

Inter house Competition – Grade 4

At VIBGYOR HIGH, students are provided with a wide exposure to exhibit and enhance their skills. To help the learners to express their creativity, an Art and Craft inter house competition ‘Designer Vase’ was held on 30th June 2011. Through this act we hope to inculcate the habit of reducing and reusing waste to stop the imminent and irreversible damage to the environment. Hence, the students were encouraged to use waste materials such as scrap wood, waste bottles, and newspapers etc for the competition. The Students should be applauded for their stellar creativity and enthusiasm. Their eco-friendly approach showed that they will be the responsible citizens of tomorrow.

We at Vibgyor High strongly believe that children learn best from real life experiences. As an extension to the Social Science unit  ‘Senses’, students of Grade 2 were taken on a field trip  to a Home for the Blind on 28th June, 2011. Children were impressed and their hearts were touched, when they saw visually challenged people working confidently and displaying their talents, through stitching and weaving. They were also surprised to see the blind people reading by touching the special perforated font which is known n as Braille. The children understood the value and importance of the sense organs. This was an enriching experience for the children.

Visit to the Post Office

In today’s fast –paced, life everyone tries to communicate with each other in the simplest way possible: like SMS, E-mails, etc.  So to make our children more informed about the traditional means of communication, VIBGYOR HIGH organized a field trip for Grade-1 to the nearby Post-Office on Wednesday 22nd June, 2011. The children were excited to see how the letters were stamped and sorted. They had an opportunity to tour the place and see the processes involved in mailing letters and parcels locally as well as abroad. They also learnt about other services available at the post office: such as Registered post, Money order and Speed post. Children had made thank you card for their parents in school and they happily went together to the post box to mail it. The visit to the post office was an educative and fun filled trip and it acquainted them with the different mailing procedures and processes.

Designer Pen and Stationary Holders

An art and craft inter house competition on “Designer Pen and Stationary Holders” was held for the children of Grade-2 on 29th June, 2011. Children brought card board boxes, kitchen rolls, paints, colours, buttons, old ribbons, ice cream sticks and other decorative material from home to design and decorate their pen holders. The children worked whole-heartedly to make the “Best out of Waste”. They made useful, unique articles and came up with innovative and outstanding creations. Teacher Induction Grade1-6

An induction is a comprehensive process of sustained training and support for new teachers. The teachers induction program was conducted on the 30th and 31st of May 2011 for  Vibgyor high Malad.The  Principal  Ms.Pratibha Prabhu welcomed all the teachers to the Vibgyor family and introduced them to the organizational structure, vision and mission  of the school. Later the programme was taken over by the Primary coordinators. The induction was an opportunity for all the teachers to get to know each other and they participated enthusiastically in the various ice-breaking activities by the end of the two day program. The teachers were very comfortable with each other. They had also gained more of an insight into Vibgyor policies and academics. By the end the induction Programme the teachers understood the significance of their role responsibility in a renowned institution.

Competitions  help in developing the multi-tasking skills in  students. An inter house group competition on the topic ‘Senses’ was organized for the students of Grade-2 on 24th February 2012. Myriad  thoughts and ideas found  the right frame into the centre of a purpose-laden activity  through projects, collages and scrap book .It was amazing to see the children working in a team to present their work.
